ObituaryA funeral service for Ronnie Houghton, age 73, of New Summerfield, is scheduled at 10 o’clock in the morning Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Dr. Edwin Crank officiating. He will be laid to rest at New Emmaus Cemetery in New Summerfield.

Mr. Houghton passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Troup.

Ronnie was born July 23, 1943 to Boyd and Erma (Brown) Houghton.

He served in the US Army from 1966-1968 then worked for Texas Comptroller from 1968-1975. He helped open the Cherokee Savings in 1975 then worked in the banking industry in the Dallas area until he moved back to East Texas 2002. He received a BBA degree from Stephen F. Austin and retired as Vice President of Franklin Bank.
Ronnie was a member of the Lions Club, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and a board member of New Emmaus Cemetery Association. He loved coaching kids in baseball and other sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Deenan Houghton of Troup; sons, Keven Houghton and wife Kerry of Royse City, Todd Houghton and wife Cindy of New Summerfield. There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Huddleston, Trenton Houghton, Jay Hartley, Ricky Jones, Chris Foley, Terry Kendall and honorary pallbearers Ethan Houghton and Dylan Houghton.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Service: Roy's wishes were that he be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Memorials: For those who wish to donate in his memory may donate to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital, The Humane Society of North Texas or the charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Vikas Aurora, of Grapevine and The Tender Heart Hospice Care of Fort Worth.
Roy was born on November 5, 1940 in Rotan, Texas to Vivian Pearl Madden and L.C. Houghton. He grew up in Abilene and graduated McMurry College with a B.A. in Business. Roy was never tardy or missed a day of school or work due to illness. He moved to Fort Worth in 1965 finally settling in Euless. Roy worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 18 years and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber. After retiring from Goodyear Roy went to work for Moore's Retread and Tire in Irving, where he worked until June of this year. Roy was an avid fan of the The Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching all sports on TV, camping and bowling but his passion was playing Golf.
He is preceded in death by his parents L.C. and Vivian Houghton.
Survivors: His wife of 25 years Rita C. Houghton, Brother Lloyd Houghton and wife Vicki of Irving, Stepson Bobby Rivet and wife Shannon of Euless, Stepdaughter Betty Bearden of Bedford. Grandchildren Justin Bearden, Chaney, Colton and Riley Rivet. Great-grandchildren Amiya, Christian and Jaydan Bearden. Cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous friends and faithful dogs Snuffy and Rudy.

Roy D. Houghton

Roy Dale Houghton, an Army veteran and a salesman in an industrial machine shop, died May 4, 2004. He was 63.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; a daughter, Cindy Daugherty of San Antonio; a son, Gene Houghton of Las Vegas, Nev; a sister, Virginia Williams of Corpus Christi; a brother, Bennie Houghton of Corpus Christi; and three grandchildren.

BiographyDianne Houghton Scoles: We have not been able to establish the birthplace or parents of Stephen Houghton. It is rumored that he was the illegitimate son of one of the Calthorpe-Goughs and there is some circumstantial evidence to support that theory since he was appointed land agent for their estate at Elvetham and all of his children were educated and started in business by the
Calthorpe-Gough family. One of the stories has him born in the United States to an American mother, possibly a Florence Houghton, who was abandoned by the Calthorpe father. According to that story, the Calthorpe-Goughs brought he and his mother to England c 1800 and took care of him. I have searched early US census but the early ones do not provide enough detail to give us anything definite. Since there are other stories in the family having Stephen born in England, there is that area to research as well. I have of course searched parish records, directories, poor law records, wills, etc. but have never found anything to confirm any of these stories.1

ObituaryApr 20, 2014Patricia Marty Houghton died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her country place near Spring Hill, Kansas where she spent so many happy years.

Poet, painter, horsewoman and peace activist, Patricia was born in Paris to American parents. She was raised in England and Kansas City where she was a 4th generation Kansas Citian. She attended the Barstow School, Sunset Hill and graduated from St. Katherine’s School for girls in Davenport, Iowa. Patricia majored in art at Radford Junior College and attended the Texas College of Mines, West Texas State and the Kansas City Art Institute.

She married three times and had three children; Sallie Houghton Capen, David Easton Houghton and Frances Elizabeth Denney. The only one of her children to survive her is Sallie Capen. Patricia also leaves her sister Jacqueline Marty Key, three grandchildren, Elizabeth Dutzy, Tyler Beals Houghton and Ian Easton Houghton, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

A former fox hunter, she belonged to the Mission Valley Hunt and the Leavenworth Hunt. Patricia was a volunteer art teacher at the Kansas State Prison for fifteen years. She cared for foster children in Johnson County for several years, teaching the children to ride and to enjoy and appreciate nature. Concerned about pollution and overpopulation, she tried to live lightly on the planet and encouraged others to do the same.3

Alice, age 77, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2004. She was born on November 24, 1926, in Houston, Texas, to Herbert and Frances Metz. Shortly after her birth she moved to Austin, Texas. On November 22, 1943, she married Gerald D. Houghton (from Dunedin, Florida) in Corpus Christi, Texas, while he was serving in the Navy. They made their home in Austin, Texas, where they lived and raised their family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and mother Frances Love. Survivors include: son, Terry Houghton and wife, Bren; daughter, Susan Kelly and husband, Mike; son, Danny Houghton and wife, Pam; brother-in-law, Wally Houghton; grandchildren, Scott and Matt Houghton, Toni Houghton, Neil Houghton, Christy Simpson and husband, Steve; Sarah Chrastina and husband, Nate; Rebekah Davidson and husband, Jad; great-grandchildren, Cole and Luke Davidson, and Gabriella Chrastina. The family extends a special thank you to all medical staff and caregivers involved in her care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
