Wilfred Houghton
ELMER - Wilfred Houghton, 84, of 400 Front St. died Saturday in the Elmer Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was a farmer here until his retirement in the early 1950s. Surviving are his wife, Florence (Ivans); two daughters, Mrs. Isabel Miller and Mrs. Naomi Usinger, both of Elmer; three sons, Glenn of Elmer, and Curtis and Rodney, both of Olivet; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

HERBERT G. HOUGHTON, 85, of East Rutherford died Wednesday. Before retiring in 1972, he was a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service, Jersey City, for 17 years. A Navy veteran of both world wars, he was a past commander of the Kingsland Barracks VFW Post 3407, the Barringer-Walker-Lotinto American Legion Post 139, and the Guidetti-Rogalski-Wasc VFW Post 3549, all in Lyndhurst. He served as a fireman in Lyndhurst for 41 years and was a former fire chief. He was also an exempt fireman. Surviving are a son, Thomas F. of Franklin

Lakes; a daughter, Rita Weisdorfer of Roy, N.M; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Katherin 1086022e Mincielli Houghton, died in 1960. Mass will be said tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Lyndhurst, with burial in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. Friends may visit today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst.

J. Edith B. Houghton, 93, of Mitchellville, died of a heart ailment Jan. 9,
1999, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services were held Jan. 12 at Hamilton's
Funeral Home, with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Houghton was born in Bloomfield, Mo., and had lived in Des
Moines most of her life until she moved to Mitchellville four years ago. She was
the owner and operator of a custodial home, retiring in 1971. She was a member
of Marantha Open Bible Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Hannon of Des Moines; a foster
daughter, Peggy Snider of Las Vegas; three sisters, Arlene John, Areierne Cox
and Lillian Denning, all of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 20
greatgrandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.²
