DEL RIO (SC) - Eugene A Houghton. 62. Del Rio merchant died in his home sometime las night apparently of a heart attack. He owned and operated a musical instrument and toy store here. He had been in Del Rio since 1953. He came here from Alpine. He had operated a similar store there. He was born Feb. 14 1904, in Guthrie. Okla. and was married to Hattie O. Thetfon Sept. 7, 1936. in Dallas. They lived in Dallas and Fort Worth until they moved to Alpine. Ik was the past director of the chamber of commerce and was still an active member of the chamber’s merchant committee

DEATHS AND SERVICES

IRA HOUGHTON

TAYLOR - Funeral for Ira Houghton, 77, of Elgin, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Beaukiss United Methodist Church near Taylor, with Rev. Roland Humphries and Rev. Howard Buchanan officiating.

Burial will be in the Lawhon Springs Cemetery under the direction of Condra Funeral Home of Taylor.

Houghton died Saturday in a Taylor hospital. He was a retired mail carrier, a lifelong resident of this area and a member of the Beaukiss United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Odessa Houghton of Elgin; three daughters, Mrs. Faye Devis of Midland, Mrs. Howard Buchanan of Kerrville and Mrs. Harold Eastman of Newark, Ohio; a son, Wayne Houghton of Barstow, Calif; a half-sister, Mrs. Aubrey Bishop of Dallas; a half-brother, Dr. Waldo Houghton of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was married to Odessa Mae Oliver (daughter of Edwin Phillips Oliver and Hattie McGinnis) in 1914. Odessa Mae Oliver was born on 16 Feb 1895 in Beaukiss, Williamson County, Texas. She died on 3 Nov 1980 in Williamson County, Texas. (1259) She was buried in Lawhon Springs Cemetery, Lee County, Texas.

J. E. Houghten Funeral Set For Thursday
Funeral services for James E. Houghton, 74, of 2923 Frankfort Ave., will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Kaster and Maxon Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Leon Sharp officiating. A 48-year resident of El Paso and retired locomotive engineer for Texas and Pacific Railroad, Mr. Houghton died Monday in El Paso. He was a member of the Broth- erhood of Locomotive Firemen Engineers No. 64 and Gateway Barracks No. 846. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Barbara Ann Houghton, and two brothers, J. B. Houghton of Rang- er, Tex., and Michael O’Brien of Los Angeles. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.

Joseph Henry Houghton Sr„ a former supervisor at the General Motors auto plant in North Tarrytown, died Sunday at West End Hospital in Denton. Texas, of heart and kidney disease. He was 74.
Mr Houghton retired from Gen eral Motors in 1972 and moved to Rio Rancho, N M., in 1973. A master electrician, he worked for General Motors for approximately 37 years, except for a special assignment to Pan American World Airways in North Africa before World War II and service in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the war
Mr Houghton was born Aug 24, 1911, in Motherwell, Scotland, the son of Fred and Mary Ann Swift Houghton After his mother's death,
he and his father came to the United States and settled in Tarrytown in 1924 Mr. Houghton moved to Irvington in the 1930s.
Mr Houghton was a member of the Mens Golf Association of Rio Rancho Country Club and the General Motors Corp Retirees Club. He was a former member of the Albuquerque (N.M.) Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife. Dorothy Irwin Houghton of Rio Rancho; two daughters. Barbara Diaferia of Mount Kisco and Carol Grzywa of Riverview. Mich; three sons, Joseph Jr of London and Robert and Jeffrey, both of Lake Dallas, Texas; a sister. Mae Davies of Toms River, N.J; and eight grandchildren.
