Milton, Jan. 21 - The funeral services of Mrs. Henry Waterman were held in Janesville last Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Brown. A large number of friends and neighbors were present. The services were conducted by Rev. A. L. McClelland of this place, the song service being rendered by Mr. A. J. Root and Miss Grace Spaulding. The interment was in the Milton cemetery.

Miss Adelia E. Janes was born in Johnstown, Rock county, Wisconsin, Jan. 23, 1844. She resided there until her marriage with Henry H. Waterman, Dec. 18, 1867. Since then their home has been in or near Milton, with the exception of the last two years, when they have lived with their daughter in Janesville.

[Janes-Peek, page 225; Rock County Genealogical Society Newsletter, Vol. 21, Issue 4, March/April 1998, page 44; Janes, page 361, apparently gives the date of their marriage incorrectly as 15 November 1851]
Their Rock County, Wisconsin, marriage certificate reads: "Be it Remembered that on the 17th day of June A.D., 1852 in the Town of Union that Chester Janes of Union and wife Mary Jane Deremer of Magnolia were with their mutual consent legally joined together in matrimony which was solemnized by me in the Presence of Hial Eastman of Magnolia and James Deremer of Union, attending witnesses having been first satisfied by the oath of Mr. Chester Janes duly administered by me that there was no legal impediment to such marriage.

He was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Rock County, Wisconsin.

Chester Janes came to the spot where Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin, now stands in 1836 with his famous cousin, Henry F. Janes who established a tavern there, became the first postmaster and gave his name to the community. After staying three years, Henry F. Janes departed for California in 1839.
Chester Janes returned east and brought his parents and siblings to Rock County, Wisconsin, circa 1841. [Rock County Genealogical Society Newsletter, Vol. 21, Issue 4, page 44].
