Biography

Anna was born on 3 June 1861 in Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York.1 She married Steward T. Church, son of Steward Church and Deborah???, on 1 January 1885 in Poestenkill, Rensselaer County, New York. According to the 1900 census, they had been married for 15 years. But the 1910 census states that they ahd been married for only 20 years. According to both the 1900 and 1910 censuses, Anna had not given birth to any children, living or dead.1,2 Anna Emma Bartlett died of arteriosclerosis and chronic myocarditis at home on 15 December 1930 in Berlin, Rensselaer County, New York, at age 69. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery (Section Y, Lot 156), Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. Anna Bartlett Church was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY, with her sisters Julia and Emogene. I found her stone in Oakwood and did not know who Anna Church was. After some research, it turned out that Anna Bartlett had married Steward Church. Then by backtracking with obits, etc., I found that Steward had died in 1911 in Berlin. Steward was buried in that Center Berlin Cemetery, but in the cemetery records, he is not to be found. His death certificate says that he was buried there. So he undoubtedly is in one of the Church Family lots there, and no one knows where.

Anna Emma Bartlett appeared on the census of 1865 in the household of Palmyra Bartlett and Elisha Williams Bartlett in Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York, which lists Elisha W. Bartlett, 54, born in Massachussets; his wife Palmyra, 42; and their children (all born in Rensselaer County, New York), Fanny, 7, Julia, 5, and Anna E., 3.3

Anna Emma Bartlett appeared on the census of 1870 in the household of Elisha Williams Bartlett and Palmyra Bartlett in Lima, Rock County, Wisconsin, which lists Elisha Bartlett, 59, his wife Palmira [sic], 46, son Charles, 19 and a farmer, and daughters Fanny, 13, Julia, 9, Anna, 8, and Emma, 2. Elisha is a carpenter with no real property and $500 of personal property. Elisha is listed as born in Massachusetts, and his wife and children all as being born in New York.

Church, 47, born in New York, father born in Massachusetts, mother born in New York; and Charles Moon, 17, a boarder. In the 1920 and 1930 censuses, the then widowed Anna Church is the housekeep for Mr. Moon.8

Anna Emma Bartlett appeared on the census of 1920 in Berlin Town, Rensselaer County, New York.9 She was a housekeeper for a single man, Charles Moon, age 27 in 1920.10

Anna Emma Bartlett appeared on the census of 1930 in Berlin Town, Rensselaer County, New York.11 She was still a housekeeper for a single man, Charles Moon, then age 37, in 1930.11

Anna Emma Bartlett was born on 3 June 1862 in Schodack, NY. On 1 January 1885, she married Steward T. Church (b. Petersburgh, NY, about 31 July 1850) in the parsonage in Poestenkill, NY. To date, I can find no children, but for me that is a work in progress. Steward Church died in Berlin on 16 March 1911 and was buried there, although I am having a problem finding which cemetery he is in. Anna is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY, in the same lot as Julia. End of that line.
