Mary Jane DeRemer married Chester Janes, son of Seymour Janes, Sr., and Polly Eastman, on 17 June 1852 in Union, Rock County, Wisconsin. [Janes-Peek, page 225; Rock County Genealogical Society Newsletter, Vol. 21, Issue 4, March/April 1998, page 44; Janes, page 361, apparently gives the date of their marriage incorrectly as 15 November 1851]
      Their Rock County, Wisconsin, marriage certificate reads: "Be it Remembered that on the 17th day of June A.D., 1852 in the Town of Union that Chester Janes of Union and wife Mary Jane Deremer of Magnolia were with their mutual consent legally joined together in matrimony which was solemnized by me in the Presence of Hial Eastman of Magnolia and James Deremer of Union, attending witnesses having been first satisfied by the oath of Mr. Chester Janes duly administered by me that there was no legal impediment to such marriage.

Mary Jane DeRemer died on 8 July 1908 in Evansville, Rock County, Wisconsin, at age 79. From The Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Rock, Wisconsin, July 17 1908, page 2:

Mrs MaryJanes died Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, aged 79 years and
six months. Mary DeRemer Janes was born in Montgomery county, NY, Jan 9,
1829. At the age of twelve years she came with her parents and other members
of the family to Wisconsin, first settling on a farm near Delavan. About two years later her father moved onto a
farm now owned by Lew Spencer southwest of Evansville. She was married in 1851 to Chester Janes, and lived with
her husband on a farm in Magnolia until 1885, when they moved to this city. Her body was interred on at in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Rock County, Wisconsin. [Chester Newton, page 1].


Mary Jane Janes and Chester Janes appeared on the census of 1880 in Magnolia Township, Rock County, Wisconsin.1

Her husband, Chester, died on 18 May 1888 in Magnolia, Rock County, Wisconsin, at age 66, leaving her a widow. He died of apoplexy at age 66. [Rock County, Wisconsin, Deaths, Vol. 2 (1882-94), page 159, no. 12] Chester Jane's 1888 death certificate gives his occupation as farmer.

Vernon Carroll Dillingham married Flora Ann Janes, daughter of Chester Janes and Mary Jane DeRemer, on 12 October 1909. From The Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Wis., Friday, 22 October 1909:
One of the social events of October was the marriage, Tuesday noon, of Vernon C Dillingham of Dundee, Ill., to
Miss Flora A Janes of this city, at the home of her brother, Fred L Janes, by Rev T W North. The marriage was in
the nature of a private one and afterthe ceremony a brief wedding tour is being taken, when they will return and
occupy their new home on Garfield avenue.

Flora Ann Janes was the younger sister of Vernon's first wife, the late Alice Louise Janes. Vernon died on 2 November 1936, at age 84.
Vernon Carroll Dillingham lived in 1874 in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, His 1874 marriage certificate gives his residence as Austin, Minnesota, and his occupation as farmer.

His wife, Alice, died on 1 April 1907 at age 53, leaving him a widower.

Many thanks for the reply! My connection to this family is thru the Case line. My ancestor, Naaman Case was an older brother of Minerva's father, Merritt Case. I therefore am interested in Minerva's descendants. In your research, have you acquired a copy of Minerva's death certificate? If so, would it be possible to get a copy? Have you been in contact with any of Minerva's descendants?

If you are interested in Minerva's ancestry, I will be glad to share it with you, although I have a feeling that you are more interested in the Janes line.
