Mordecai Bedient, Sr., was baptized on 15 January 1738 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, British Colonial America. ].6

He was a Private in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Samuel Comstock's company, John Chandler's Eighth Regiment, Connecticut Line, which was raised January 1777. in the Revolutionary War. Mordecai's Regiment received orders from General George Washington to defend Fort Mifflin on Mud Island in the Delaware River just outside of Philadelphia. Mordecai's Regiment was to prevent the British from establishing a supply line to Philadelphia. The British forces laid siege to Fort Mifflin in early October 1777. During the 5-week siege, 406 to 450 American soldiers held off more than 2,000 British troops and 250 ships until 10 November 1777, when the British intensified their assault by launching an incessant barrage of cannonballs into the Fort. Supposedly, Mordecai's body was ferried along with the rest of the dead and wounded to the mainland before the final evacuation, which occurred in the night of Nov 15 and 16, 1777. It is unknown where the body of Mordecai Bedient was laid to rest.

CAVEAT: Mordecai's Revolutionary War service is sometimes confused with that of his son Mordecai, Jr. who survived the war.7,2
