Nina L. Janes appeared on the census of 1880 in Johnstown, Rock County, Wisconsin. After the death of her mother in 1889, she apparently went to live with her aunt, Alice Johnson.

She is mentioned in her father's 1906 obituary as being unmarried and living in Sioux City, Iowa, where her father had lived from 1893 to 1905. She apparently died without issue.

MRS. JAY EMERY

      Evansville -- Mrs. Jay Emery, formerly Mrs. William Smith, Evansville, died last Friday [7 June 1946] in a hospital in Vallejo [Solano County], California, following a long illness. She had made her home in Vallejo for several years with her nephew and niece, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dempster.
      Funeral services were held Sunday [9 June 1946] in Vallejo and following cremation the ashes will arrive in Evansville for burial at which time a brief service will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery.
      Mrs. Emery was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Horace Janes and until her marriage to Mr. Emery in 1928 spent her entire life in Evansville. She was a member of the Evansville high school graduating class of 1881. She was also a charter member and past matron of the local Eastern Star. The survivors include her stepson, Harley A. Smith, Evansville, and several nephews and nieces.
