This census page was clear and easy to read. I have no doubt that I've correctly read both Abram's and Philo's ages, both four.
6. This census extract, functioning as a "snapshot" of the beginning of the education revolution, shows us how times were changing. Kelly, the father, is illiterate, but all the kids of school age are in school.
7. This family moved a lot. At least five locations in New York before they moved to Illinois, if my data are accurate.

I am also confused by the info on Bert Plum/Plumb and Olive Donovan. They give a marriage date of June 16, 1895, and list a daughter, Flossie, born April 15, 1896. I have eight children of Bert and Olive (most of course born after 1897) and not a Flossie in the lot. I show the first child to be Marie. I don't have a birth date for her. Possibly her name is Flossie Marie or Florence Marie??
The only information I have on this family is the Belle Plaine Bio Directory extraction, so I'm unable to help you with this one. It could be that Flossie didn't survive. (I didn't know that Ollie's name was Olive until I read your note!)
I also show Ellen Renslow, wife of Linus Plum/Plumb as born in Allegany Co. NY, not Whiteside Co. IL. Am I wrong on that?
I don't think you're wrong. Her parents lived in Alfred, New York, when she was born. This kind of mistake is made regularly--people in different parts of the country understand "from" differently, as in, "I'm from Illinois." Does that mean she was born in Illinois, or does it mean that she was raised in Illinois, or does it mean that she was living in Illinois just before she arrived in in Iowa and said she was "from" Illinois? If I visited you in your part of the country, I would say, "I'm from California." But, I wasn't born in California. I was raised in California, and I live in California, but I was born in Colorado.

Do you have any additional information on Harriet Foy? She is a sister to my great grandmother Jennie Foy McKenzie. I know there were 4 boys and 3
girls in that family, and their father was Daniel Foy. Daniel had 3 brothers and one sister who was also named Harriet Foy (Green).
I just found an old will that my dad had that outlines some of the Foy family. I have not yet put any of this on the internet, but I will as soon as possible. Please tell me if you have anything more on Harriet Foy's father and mother. I will be glad to share what I have if you need it.

Ranslow. There's no direct proof. Sydney and Mary had a son named William that was about the right age. Although this William apparently gave his age as 21 in 1898, it hasn't been uncommon in any age for boys to lie about their age to get work. I don't know what the minimum age for military service was at that time, but I suspect it was 21. I didn't have time to check the military pensions. My guess is that it'll be a fruitless search anyway, because William had less than a year in service when he died. But, you never know.

2. Where born Town or County. I can't find a Penig in Vermont or anywhere else.
3. Where born State. VT looked reasonable, but it might've been UT or something else.
4. Age. The character that I took as a four was two vertical marks. The age could also have been 21 with an extraneous mark.
5. Age. Each age on the page had a number from 1 to 11 written above. I take these to be months, so that William's entry might read, "Age 24 years 6 months."
6. Description. The color of eyes and hair was very difficult reading.
7. Remarks. I don't know the meaning of the portion following the rank (Pvt). The mark which I have depicted as a lower case "i" may have been an extraneous mark, or perhaps a letter that was partially lost in the transfer to microfilm. 3. In Kelly's "occupation" space, there's a check mark at the extreme right side, extending over the line between columns.
4. H. M.'s age, if accurate, should have resulted in her being present for the 1850 U.S. Census, which she was not, at least not in her parents' home. Her correct age was probably nine rather than ten in 1860.
5. Abram's age is given as four, yet he was shown as having attended school. Philo, also shown as four, apparently didn't attend school. My guess is, Abram was age six, not four, in 1860. This census page was clear and easy to read. I have no doubt that I've correctly read both Abram's and Philo's ages, both four.
6. This census extract, functioning as a "snapshot" of the beginning of the education revolution, shows us how times were changing. Kelly, the father, is illiterate, but all the kids of school age are in school.
7. This family moved a lot. At least five locations in New York before they moved to Illinois, if my data are accurate.

I told you Louisa also had a son Carl (1890-1918) by her first marriage. It appears obvious that the census taker in 1900 corrupted his surname Beutil to "Beidle" and ignored his given name.

6 The 29 September 1927, edition of the Waterloo (Iowa) Courier carried the following obituary:
Ell G. Renslow Ell G. Renslow, 62, died at 7:15 p.m. yesterday [28 September 1927] at his home in Riverview addition after an illness of several years. He was employed by the W., C. P. & N railroad for six years as motorman before being forced to give up his work on account of illness.
Ell Gardner Renslow was born May 23, 1865, in Corning, New York, the youngest of a family of 10 children. When he was 4 years of age, he moved with his parents to Illinois, where they remained for five years before coming to Shelby County, Iowa.
Later, they moved to Portage, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood and married Miss Rose O'Haver in 1885. Four children were born to them, three dying in infancy and one, a son, George Renslow, Chicago, surviving.
In 1899, Mr. Renslow married Cassie Bell Davis. Surviving are his widow and three children: Ray, Fay, and Flossie Isabelle. A brother, Phil Renslow, Millerton, North Dakota, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Elma Brigson, and nine grandchildren also survive.
The body is at the O'Keefe & Towne Mortuary.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday [1 October 1927] at the O'Keefe & Towne chapel, Rev. O.M. Yaggy officiating.

Friday, September 25, 1942
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Louise Renslow of Clinton, Iowa were held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Pope Funeral Home with the Rev. George Krueger, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Fulton Cemetery. Mrs. Renslow passed away at her home in Clinton at three o'clock Sunday.
Louise Clark Brandt was born August 14, 1866 in Germany, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Casper Brandt. On August 14, 1895 she was married to John C. Renslow in Rock Falls.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. A. F. Ploog (Florence), Mrs. Evelyn Flockhart of Clinton, Mrs. Harold Trout (Helen) of Rock Island, one brother Fred Brandt, of San Diego, CA, one sister, Mrs. Henry Martin of Fulton, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs. Renslow resided in Fulton for a number of years before going to Clinton to take up her residence.

Millville - Tessie (Kroll) RANSLOW, 88, formerly of 8 Albion St., died yesterday in Overlook Nursing Home, Rock Avenue, Pascoag, R.I., after an illness.
Her husband, James L. Ranslow Sr., died in 1986. She leaves four sons, James L. Ranslow Jr. of Millville, Norman Ranslow of Vacaville, Calif., Raymond Ranslow of Anaheim, Calif., and Robert E.
Ranslow of Blackstone; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was born in Sutton, daughter of Uke and Johanna (Jeijema) Kroll, and lived here most of her life before moving to Pascoag in 1986.
Mrs. Ranslow was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, its Altar Guild and the Millville Senior Citizens.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John's Episcopal Church, Central Street. The Rev. Martha Vaguener will officiate. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The
family requests that flowers be omitted. Contributions may be made instead to the Memorial Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, Central Street, Millville 01529. Curtis J. Holt's & Sons Funeral Home,
