From the Massachusetts State Prison commitment registers, 1805-1934:

1844 - George Ranslow; age 48, hazel eyes, black hair, dark complexion; additional description: scar on the top of his heard, scar on the pan of the knee & on the shin of the left leg, scar on the right leg just above the knee, letters of G R & an anchor on the left arm in blue ink, G.W.R. on the right arm in blue ink born Middleboro, Mass. Convicted March 15 in Taunton for larceny arrived March 19; served one day in solitary two years labor; discharged March 20, 1846.

Even with a potential nine year difference in age seems reasonable to think this may be the same person, especially when one thinks it normal for a Sailor to have an anchor tattoo?

In the 1850 federal census for Massachusetts, there was a George RANSLOW, 45 years old, occupation mariner, born Massachusetts, resident of the poor house in Newbury, Essex Coounty, Massachusetts [page 330 or page 659, one handwritten number and one printed].

His wife, Hannah, died on 25 October 1850 in Wareham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, at age ~45, leaving him a widower.1

I requested information from the Massachusetts State Prison Commitment Registers 1805 - 1934/Charlestown State Prison last November. They remembered and wrote back! Because the records were out being microfilmed they were just able to answer my enquiry. Here's what was entered:

Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Black
Complexion: Dark
Scar on the top of his head, scar on the pan of the knee & on the shin of the left leg, scar on the right leg just above the knee, letters of G. R. & an anchor on the left arm in blue ink. G. W. R. on the right arm in blue ink.

State or County: Mass
When: March 15 [1844]
Where: Taunton
For what crime: Larceny
When received: March 19 [1844]
Sentence: Solitary 1 day
To Labor 2 years
Discharged: March 20, 1846

So as best I can tell this may have been George W. C. born about 1805 in Middleboro, MA? My line being George W.C. > George Washington > Louis Clifford > Edward James > Clinton Henry > Sharon Lynn. My father will
be pleased to hear about this!
