The father Charles Harper, Sr. immigrated in 1869. The 1900 census shows Charles Harper, Sr. as married for 21 years, but his wife Mary is not listed.

The 1920 census lists Charles as immigrating in 1863 [sic, actually 1869?] and being naturalized in 1868.

Harper – On Saturday, December 9, 1933, at 10:30 pm, Charles, husband of the late Mary Ponce Harper and father of Miss Mollie Harper, ln his 78th year. Funeral from his late residence. 711 Industry Street, near Millbridge Street. Services on Tuesday, December 12 at 2:30 pm. Friends and members of Brashear Lodge, I.O.O.F., No. 1024, are invited. Interment in Southside cemetery.
