Henry was born on 5 June 1837 in Stephenson County, Illinois.1 He married Antoinette Murphy in 1860 in Fayette County, Iowa.2 He married Eva Eudora Murphy on 1 January 1881 in Fayette County, Iowa. Henry died on 6 September 1921, in Iowa at age 84.3 He was buried in Bethel Township, Fayette County, Iowa.2
Henry M. Salisbury, Sr., has also been reported to have been born 5 June 1837 Winnebago County, Illinois.2

His wife, Antoinette, died in 1880 in Fayette County, Iowa, at age ~39, leaving him a widower.2



The 14 September 1900 edition of the West Union [Fayette County, Iowa] Gazette apparently carried a list of Old Setters, which included Henry Salisbury, age 63, who said that he arrived in Fayette County in 1855. [The Fayette County Connection, Newsletter of the Fayette County, Iowa, Genealogical and Historical Societies, July 2001, page 5] He would have been 18 years old in 1855.

Henry M. Salisbury, Sr., and Eva Eudora Salisbury appeared on the census of 1900 in Westfield Township, Fayette County, Iowa, which lists Henry Salisbury, 63, born June 1837 in Illinois, both parents born in New York; his wife Eva, 41, born January 1859 in Iowa, father born in New York, mother born in Illinois; their son Henry, 11, born April 1889 in Iowa; and Eva's niece Mildred Northop, 7, born April 1893 in South Dakota, father born in Wisconsin, mother born in Iowa. Mildred Northrop must have been visiting the Salisburys, because she is also listed with her parents in Madision, Lake County, South Dakota in the 1900 census.4 He was a farmer in 1900.4

Salisbury, Sr., and Eva Eudora Salisbury appeared on the census of 1910 in Westfield Township, Fayette County, Iowa, which lists Henry Salisbury, 72, born in Illinois, both parents born in New York, married 29 years; his wife Eva, 51, born in Iowa, father born in New York, mother born in Illinois; and their son Henry M. Salisbury, 21, born in Iowa.5 He was a farmer in 1910.5 He appeared on the census of 1920 in the household of Henry Murphy Salisbury, Jr., and Lana Salisbury in Westfield Township, Fayette County, Iowa.1
