Elizabeth Fluery Corcoran apparently abandoned her husband Peter and family shortly after their arrival in America in 1827 and the birth of their youngest child William E. Corcoran.

MARRIED - ADAMS-BARTLETT On Wednesday evening, 26th, insts. [26 September 1877] by Rev. Wm J. Tilley, JOSEPH E. ADAMS of Brunswick, NY, and FANNIE BARTLETT of Troy." [Note: Rev. Tilley was the pastor of the Vail Avenue Methodist Church in Lansingburgh, NY].

Joseph E. Adams married Carrie A. Lewis, daughter of Samuel Lewis and Anna T.???, on 12 May 1881 in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. The 13 May 1881 edition of the Troy Daily Times carried the following wedding accouncement (on page 2, column 6):
Married - ADAMS- LEWIS on the 12th [12 May 1881], in this city, by the Rev. Dr. Baldwin, Mr. JOSEPH E. ADAMS of Brunswick [NY] and Miss CARRIE A. LEWIS of Troy [NY].6



Joseph E. Adams died of pleuro pneumonia of seven days' duration on 28 August 1906 in 87 Seventh Avenue, North End, Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, at age 50.7,4 He was buried on 31 August 1906 in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, CAVEAT: According to NPM, it appears that none of this family are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.8,4


Joseph E. Adams appeared on the census of 1860 in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York.2 He lived in 1877 in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York.9

His wife, Fanny, died on 25 February 1879 of consumption in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York, at age ~22, leaving him a widower. The Troy Daily Times" of Tuesday, 25 February 1879, carried the following death announcement on page 2, column 6:
DIED - ADAMS- In Brunswick, Feb. 25th [1879], FANNY, wife of Joseph E. Adams, in her 22d year. Funeral will take place from the Vail Avenue M. E. church Thursday next [27 February 1879] at 2:30.10

He appeared on the census of 1880 in the household of Elisha J. Adams and Mary Adams in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York, which lists Elisha Adams, 57; his wife Mary A. 55; their children, a daughter [first name illegible], 36; Mary, 18, Kate M., 12, Joseph, 23; and their granddaughter, Mabel, 1; all born in New York. Mabel was the daughter of Joseph and his late wife Fanny Bartlett, who died in 1879. Joseph was back living with his parents, after the death of his first wife Fanny Bartlett Adams in 1879 and before his marriage to his second wife Carrie A. Lewis in 1881.11,12 Joseph E. Adams was a milkman in 1880.11

Joseph E. Adams and Carrie A. Adams appeared on the census of 1900 in Lansingburgh, Rensselaer County, New York, which lists Joseph E. Adams, 43, born July 1856; his wife Carrie [Lewis] Adams, 40, born March 1863; a daugher, Mabel, 21, born July 1878 [her mother was Joseph's first wife, the late Fanny Bartlett Adams]; a son Arthur, 18, born February 1882 [incorrectly written as 1892]; (all born in New York); and Carrie's widowed mother, Anna T. Lewis, 61, born August 1838 in England, emigrated to USA in 1842. Carrie had given birth to one child [Arthur] who was living, and Anna had given birth to three children [including Carrie], all of whom were still living.

The 30 August 1906 edition of the Troy Record carried the following obituary for Joseph E. Adams:

The death of Joseph E. Adams occurred Tuesday evening [28 August 1906] at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. George Hydorn, No. 87 Seventh avenue. The deceased was born in the town of Brunswick [NY] but had resided in this city [Troy, NY] for the past ten years [1896 to 1906]. For the past year Mr. Adams has conducted a profitable confectionary business here. He was a member of the Grace Methodist church and possessed a host of friends among the members of that institution. Besides his daughter he is survived by a son Arthur, and five sisters, Elizabeth, Adelaide and Catherine Adams, Mrs. Joseph Freeman and Mrs. Sarah King. The funeral will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon [31 August 1906]. Rev. George Stockwell, the pastor of the Grace church, will officiate. The interment will be made in the Oakwood cemetery.8
