The 30 August 1906 edition of the Troy Record carried the following obituary for Joseph E. Adams:
The death of Joseph E. Adams occurred Tuesday evening [28 August 1906] at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. George Hydorn, No. 87 Seventh avenue. The deceased was born in the town of Brunswick [NY] but had resided in this city [Troy, NY] for the past ten years [1896 to 1906]. For the past year Mr. Adams has conducted a profitable confectionary business here. He was a member of the Grace Methodist church and possessed a host of friends among the members of that institution. Besides his daughter he is survived by a son Arthur, and five sisters, Elizabeth, Adelaide and Catherine Adams, Mrs. Joseph Freeman and Mrs. Sarah King. The funeral will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon [31 August 1906]. Rev. George Stockwell, the pastor of the Grace church, will officiate. The interment will be made in the Oakwood cemetery.
