HATTERAS - Caddie Urias Gaskins Shoemaker, 85, of Buxton, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. She was a wonderful woman who cherished and loved her family. Rossie worked in the Newport Theater as a young woman and also owned and operated the Old Virginia Ham Shop in Norfolk, VA for many years. She was loved by her family and community and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish her precious memory is her daughter, Deborah Etheridge of Buxton, NC; sister, Rebecca Burrus of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren, Sebring Rockefeller and wife, Rhonda Rockefeller of Virginia Beach, VA, Kristen Parrino and husband, Warren Parrino of Birmingham, Ala; five great-grandchildren, Alexandria Rockefeller, John Rockefeller, Robert Rockefeller, Mitchell Parrino, and Carter Parrino. Rossie was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Al Shoemaker. Funeral services will be held at the Buxton United Methodist Church on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dwight Burrus and Rev. Charles Moseley officiating. Burial will take place in the Gaskins Family Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Kathleen Gaskins at 47516 Rocky Rollinson Road, Buxton. Obituary

Deborah Rockefeller Etheridge went to be with her Lord and father on July 13, 2021 at the age of 72. She was born in Norfolk, VA on October 14, 1948. She is predeceased in death by her father, John Edward Houghton and her mother, Urias Caddie "Rossie" Gaskins Shoemaker, her dad, Samuel Alfred "Daddio" Shoemaker as well as numerous aunts and her uncle. She is survived by her son, Sebring Alfred Rockefeller (Children: Alexandria 20, John 19, Rob 18, and Jack 15) her daughter Kristen Rockefeller Ochs and Husband Gary Thomas Ochs II, (Children: Mitchell 19, Carter 17, and Jackson 12) and numerous loving cousins and extended family.

Debbie was an active member of Hatteras Island Christian Fellowship in Buxton, NC. She was an owner of the Old Virginia Ham Shop at Wards Corner and she also worked at Cape Hatteras High School at the front desk for many years. She was a woman of strong faith that loved the Lord and her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her friends and family. She was loved by everyone that knew her and she will be missed by all.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk VA. There will also be a reception at her home after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation http://hicf.org.
