ObituaryMar 1, 1985Mrs. Esther L. Houghton, 85, formerly of 1516 New York Ave., Manitowec, died Thursday morning, Feb. 28, at North Ridge Care Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Edmund E. Olson will officiate and burial will bein Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Houghton was born July 29, 1899, at Sandy Bay, Kewaunee County, daughter of the late Paul and Ragnild Gullickson Nelson. In her early childhood the family resided in Cor- nell, Wis., Chippewa County. She was married to Roy F. Houghton, June 23, 1920, at Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1942. Mrs. Houghton was employed at Henderson Hoyt Company and City Auto Sales until retiring in 1959. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and The Courage Cir- cle of the church. and a member of Manitowoc - Two Rivers Business and Professional Womens Club for many years.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Loris and Leo Touhey of Manitowoc; two brothers, Clarence and Oscar Nelson of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Jacobs of Winston- Salem, N.C. and Mrs. Agnes Pape of Juneau, Wis; four grandchildren, Peter Touhey of Kenosha, Lynn Gilliam of Milwaukee, Mark Touhey of Cambridge, Wis. and Brian Touhey of Madison; four great grandchildren, Jessica and Christopher Gilliam of Milwaukee, Meghan Touhey of Cam- bridge, Wis. and Patrick Touhey of Kenosha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1922 and a sister, Mrs. Florence Breuer.

BiographyRichard graduated from Shorewood High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Millwaukee and his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was an instructor in Arts at the Milwaukee State Teachers College during the summer session of 1948. After graduation from UW- Madison, he was curator of exhibits at the State Historical Society in Madison. In World War II he served as Cpl. in the Specialized Training Program of the Army. In 1950 and 1952 he had pieces of his art shown in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. From 1953 to 1956 Richard was the Art Librarian at the Charles Allis Art Library, 1630 E. Royal Place, Milwaukee. On July of 1953 he had a one-man show of paintings and graphics at the Memorial Union on the UW-Madison Campus. Richard moved to Washington D.C. where he was an illustrator for the National Park Service and the Department of Agriculture. He was Art Director of the Department of Rural Electrification at the time of his retirement from the United States Government Service in 1983. He made his home in the east, living in Arlington, Virginia, until his illness of Leukemia brought him back to his native state of Wisconsin.3

BiographyBob attended Atwater Grade School in Shorewood and graduated from Shorewood High School in 1944 where he was active in art, band, football and track. Bob was in the Navy during World War II from July 10, 1944 to August 4, 1946 as a Motor Machinist, 3rd class, in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he graduated from the Layton Art School and took Technical courses at Milw. Technical College. He worked as a draftsman for his father's company, the Rio Pump Co.and continued when it was sold to Chrysler Marine Division, now Harley Davidson where he worked until he retired in 1992. He volunteers at the River Edge Nature Center and acts as tour guide for Harley Davidson Bob married Mary Beth Knoblock (RIN # 783) on August 25, 1956. Mary was born September 9, 1934 in Milwaukee. She is the daughter of Le Verne and Mildred Knobloch. Mary received a Bachelor of Science-Elementary Education Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1957. She taught second grade at the Grafton Elementary School from 1957-9.4

Rose Marie (Houghton) Campion          
Campion, Rose Marie (Houghton) Died peacefully at age 82 Surrounded by family on July 7th Her birthday and the birthday of her husband Bob, who preceded her in death. Rose was born and raised in the West 7th Street area of St. Paul, graduating from St. Francis de Sales and St. Joseph's Academy. On May 3rd 1947, Rose married the love of her life, Bob Campion, and were married for 50 years until his death in 1998. Rose lived for her family, was very active in the church and school at St. Francis, and numerous charitable activities in the West 7th Street area. Rose and Bob owned a food catering business and a wholesale and retail meat and food market. Rose was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Rose Houghton, and grandson David. She is survived by 6 children, Michael (Kathryn), Susan Bloomquist (John), Patricia Fowler (Michael), Thomas (Jeanne), Nancy Bartusch (Timothy), and Mary; 11 grandchildren, Clinton, Andrew, Megan, Christian, Karna, Michelle, Rachel, Amy, Molly, Kelsey, Max, and 6 great grandchildren, Lexis, Samantha, Conor, Caden, Carter, and Vincent. Rose is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Kulhanek Bennett (Phillip), (Edward Kulhanek). A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at ST. Joseph's Home.

She was born July 1, 1897, in Rock County, Wis., the daughter of James and Anna Dooley Byrne. She married Andrew Houghton in 1925; he died in 1986. Also preceding her in death were a son, James F., three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Houghton was formerly a schoolteacher in Wisconsin. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Altar and Rosary Society and a former member of United Commercial Travelers.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Pat) Bertrand of Springfield; five grandchildren; a brother, Robert Byrne of Beloit, Wis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Hugh Cassidy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
