Deceased Name: Lorah Houghton Martin
Lorah Houghton Martin, 92, "The Poet Lady" of Strange Creek died Sept. 25, 2007, at the Heartland of Charleston nursing home.

She was born Aug. 7, 1915, one of ten children to the late Charles W. and Rosa Henderson Houghton.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Martin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Martin; one great-grandson; three sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Jackie and Janet Martin of Charleston, and Lowell and Kathy Martin of Marmet; daughter, Edie Widder of Ohio; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Iva Farley of Lisbon, Ohio, and Mozelle Brown of Summersville.

Many thanks go to all at Heartland of Charleston. The family especially wants to thank Sam, Beverly, Vanessa, Roberta, Michelle and Dr. Sheth for the excellent nursing care of their mother and also thanks to Lisa and Summer, we will always remember you all.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Eureka United Methodist Church, Strange Creek, with the Rev. Johnny Conrad officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Eureka United Methodist Church, c/o Marjorie Young, HC 75 Box 16, Strange Creek, WV 25063.3

James Earl Houghton

James Earl Houghton, 84, of Little Birch, WV died March 4, 2010.

He was born September 20, 1925 in Clay Co., WV to the late Earl and Ottie DeMoss Houghton. James was a Baptist by faith and a WW II Navy Veteran. He was retired from Island Creek Coal Co.

In addition to his parents; James was also preceded by his sisters; Nina Prospt, and Ida Mae Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Opal Crites Houghton; six children; Lenord Wayne Houghton and wife Patty Harden of AK., Dana and Larry Houghton both of Little Birch, Gary Houghton and wife Peggy of Sutton, Sherry Houghton Long and husband Rodney of Gerrardstown, WV, and Theresa Houghton Murphy and husband Mark of Little Birch. Also his brother; Bob Houghton and wife Lena of Birch River, sisters; Olive Bragg and husband Sunny of Craigsviille, Anna Lea Larch and husband Roy of Doylestown, OH. 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren 6 great-grandchildren & 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, 2010 1:00 pm at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, burial followed in the Beulah Baptist Cemetery near Muddlety, WV. Friends called 6-8pm Sunday.

She was a member of the DAR and OES. both of Eugene. Ore. and the Immanuel Congregational Church of Hartford. JAKOBOSKI, Iola Mae (Houghton)

Iola Mae (Houghton) Jakoboski, 89, of Cook Hill Road, Lebanon, beloved wife of Walter, died peacefully at home on Friday (February 28, 2003). She was born in Montana on December 3, 1913 to the late George and Jesse (Look) Houghton. She was predeceased by a brother, Orest Houghton. Iola was a long time resident of Lebanon and taught second grade until retiring in 1982. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, the Lebanon Historical Society, the Lebanon Community Chorus and one of the founders of the Summer Youth Orchestra. She was an avid walker, conversationalist, photographer, gardener, cellist and pianist. She fully appreciated the beauty of the day and was a spiritual inspiration to all who know her. She is survived by her husband, Walter; a sister-in-law, Opal Houghton of Melbourne, FL; five children, Walter of New Fairfield and his wife, Judiann and their children, Christopher, Nicholas and Stephanie, Jean of North Windham and her children, Justin and Aaron Dubina, Donald and his wife, Jan of Tolland, children, Julie and Derek, Paul of Coventry and his wife, Wendy, children, Josh, Matt, Lisa, Caroline and Rebecca, Philip and his wife, Linda of Tolland, children, Joseph, Sabrina, Jennifer and Brian. She also leaves behind a great grandchild, Jadon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, Rte. 207, Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd. Mr. Houghton was bom in Bell, Mont. He came to Brevard County in 1961 from Miami.
A Navy pilot during World War II. he flew the “Dauntless Dive Bomber."
He was a graduate of the University of Oregon and taught school for

two years. Houghton also worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired in 1977.
He was an active member of United Church of Christ Congregational in Melbourne, the Toastmasters International. Barbershoppers, Civil Air Patrol. Masons and Airline Pilots Association.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years. Opal Houghton of West Melbourne; sons. Jon Houghton. Fred Houghton and Stephen Houghton. all of Melbourne; sister. Iola Jakoboski of Lebanon. Conn; and eight grandchildren
