SUFFIELD, CT - Bette G. Ferguson Houghton of Suffield, CT died peacefully, surround-ed by her loving family, on November 2nd at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MA at the age of 94. Born in London, England on February 26th, 1915 to the late Laura C. Pyman and Gordon A. Ferguson, Bette taught at Montessori Schools there prior to immigrating to the United States in 1996 to be with her two children. In the United States, Bette worked as Director of Pediatric Activities at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. Later in life, Bette moved to Suffield, CT where she loved playing bridge and all card games with her dear friends at the Suffield Senior Center. She also enjoyed her time spent in Delray Beach, FL. Bette's loves and interests were her family, all small children, gardening/flowers and socializing with friends. She also loved parties, needlepoint, dancing and watching the grand-slam tennis tournaments. Her warm and dynamic personality resulted in a huge number of friends all over the world. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman E. Houghton, son, Rodney N. Houghton, sisters, Sylvia (Joy) Stiassni, Pauline S. Ferguson and brother, Gordon (Hobbie) Ferguson. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Deanne Houghton Shorb and son-in-law, Delburt E. Shorb of Suffield, CT, and daughter-in-law, Penelope P. Houghton of Vero Beach, FL.She is also survived by her Grandchildren, Lee C. Hansen and his wife Gretchen of San Francisco, CA, Stephanie H. Sinclair and her husband Ian of Avon, CT, and Alexander P. Houghton and his wife Laura of Atlanta, GA, step-grandchildren, Kerry S. Rochefort of Canton, CT and Amy S. Kropp and her husband George of Coral Springs, FL, She had nine great-grandchildren; Victoria, William and Nicholas Hansen, Clay and Parker Sinclair, Henry and James Houghton, and Kara and Aidan Kropp. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and their families both in England and the United States. All her family wish to extend their thanks and gratitude to the "Bette Team" for all of the tender loving care. Aneta, Jackie, Cari, Jenn, Mary, Joyce, Joan, Oma and Heidi. Also many thanks to the Mercy Hospital staff of the 2nd and 5th floors for their unbelievable care in her last few weeks of life. Internment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery on Bridge St, Suffield at 11 AM. December 5th followed by a memorial service in celebration of Bette's life at the First Church of Christ Congregational 81 High St. Suffield, CT at 12 noon. Houghton, Mary Stewart, Age 68 of St. Paul. Passed away November 3rd with her beloved daughter and son-in-law by her side. Preceded in death by her father, George D. Stewart; mother, Dorothy Cobey; brother, George (Donnie) Stewart, Jr; uncle and aunt, James E. and Pearl Welch. Survived by daughter, Jennifer S. Mattocks and husband Patrick; granddaughters, Megan and Katie. Also survived by brother, Larry R. Stewart (Jeannie); sisters, Linda Skirten (Ray) and Barb Cobey (John Gookins); nieces, Kirsten Galloway (Glenn), Elizabeth Foley (Paul), Judy, Missy and Mandy; and grandnieces and grandnephew. Born in Bemidji, Mary was an artist from a young age. Mary grew up in International Falls, MN and Racine, WI and graduated from the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. She lived and worked in the Chicago area and Minneapolis/St. Paul as an artist. Her expertise in fashion illustration could be seen through her work at Evans Furs (Chicago) and Dayton's. She was an artist for the Burnsville Current and retired from Education Minnesota as a graphic artist. Illness did not stop her from creating wonderful watercolors as a member of the Minnesota Water Color Society and she continued her art for family and friends during retirement. Mary will be remembered for her amazing gifts of art and humor. She had a love for books and animals but most importantly for her granddaughters. SUDBURY: Phyllis M. (Webster) Houghton, 86, of 55 Hudson Road, a longtime resident of Boston Post Road and Concord Road, died Saturday, January 12th at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, Littleton. She is survived by a son, Raymond C. Houghton of Litchfield, NH, four daughters; Carol L. Valiton of Townsend, Phyllis A. Gray of Pepperell, Barbara J. Dadswell of Signal Mountain, TN, and Janet L. Maiuri of Grafton. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Henry E. Webster Jr. of Framingham. Mrs. Houghton was born in Belmont, February 19, 1921, the daughter of Henry E. and Marion L. (Hall) Webster and resided most of her life in Sudbury. She was a 1939 graduate of Sudbury High School. Through the years she worked at the Bentley Stationary Store and the Community Calendar both in Sudbury. She had been an active member of the Sudbury Congregational Church and had served 14 years as a babysitter in the childcare program there. She was a member of the Sudbury Professional Women's Club and was a member of the Sudbury American Legion Post. During WWII Mrs. Houghton served her country for over two years in the United States Army, where she was assigned to the Women's Army Corps. While in the armed forces she was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Wormen's Army Props Service Medal, WW II Victory Medal and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in the Massachusetts Veteran's Cemetery, Winchendon. There are no calling hours. The T.J.
