EASTHAM - Evelyn Houghton, 98, a winter resident of Florida, died yesterday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. She was the wife of Henry Houghton for 62 years.
Mrs. Houghton was born in Auburn, Maine. She was former owner and operator of Houghton's Photographic Service in Marlboro. She was also a housekeeper for Cushing Hospital and Framingham State College for many years. She was an avid gardener and birdwatcher. She loved flowers, yard work, photography and her dog Sneakers. She was a collector of frog items. Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Joyce Lang of Hyannis; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.²

Lorah Houghton Martin, 92, "The Poet Lady" of Strange Creek died Sept. 25, 2007, at the Heartland of Charleston nursing home.

She was born Aug. 7, 1915, one of ten children to the late Charles W. and Rosa Henderson Houghton.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Martin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Martin; one great-grandson; three sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Jackie and Janet Martin of Charleston, and Lowell and Kathy Martin of Marmet; daughter, Edie Widder of Ohio; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Iva Farley of Lisbon, Ohio, and Mozelle Brown of Summersville.

Many thanks go to all at Heartland of Charleston. The family especially wants to thank Sam, Beverly, Vanessa, Roberta, Michelle and Dr. Sheth for the excellent nursing care of their mother and also thanks to Lisa and Summer, we will always remember you all.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Eureka United Methodist Church, Strange Creek, with the Rev. Johnny Conrad officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Eureka United Methodist Church, c/o Marjorie Young, HC 75 Box 16, Strange Creek, WV 25063.³
