She was a retired private-duty nurse and was a member of Kanawha City Baptist Church and Charleston Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Surviving: sisters, Kathleen Miller of Dunbar, Eva Westfall of Charleston; brother, Glen Westfall of Dunbar; several nieces and nephews.

The body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University, Morgantown. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Kanawha City Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Cox officiating. Friends may call a half-hour prior to service at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kanawha City Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dora Houghton, his children, Elizabeth and Bob Staley, of Cartersville, Georgia and Kerry Houghton, of Acworth, Georgia, his grandchildren, Shane and Megan Short, Heather Short, Victoria Staley, Ashley Houghton and Joshua Houghton, great grandchildren, Kylie Bush, Isaac Houghton and Ariana Burnley, his sister and brother and brother in law, Mary Lou and Roland McCartney, of Titusville, Florida, brother and sister in law, Gene and Brenda Skidmore, of Richmond, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Houghton, an attorney, had a private law practice for more than 30 years. A former Center Line Public Safety officer, he served on the Center Line City Council and was a volunteer firefighter.

He was a past president of the Center Line Rotary Club, and a member of the American Bar Association and the Michigan Bar Association. He also was a graduate of St. Clement High School and the Detroit College of Law.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Christina (Steve) Cadaret, Sandy (Geoff) McQueen, Gary Houghton Jr. and Andrew Houghton; siblings, Sidney (Rose) Houghton and Dianne (Roy) Bryant; and grandchildren, Brittney, Madison, Alyssa, Carson, Luke and Evan. He was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Dolores Houghton.

A funeral service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday in St. Clement Church, 25320 Van Dyke (three blocks north of 10 Mile Road), Center Line, with the Revs. Alberto Bondy and Mathew George officiating. Cremation will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Thursday in Ford Funeral Home, 26560 Van Dyke (three blocks south of Interstate 696), Center Line. Additional visitation is 9:15-9:45 a.m. Friday in the church.

PERRY, Okla. Helen M. Houghton, 86, formerly of Winfield, died Nov. 24, 2003, at the Perry Nursing Care Center in Perry, Okla.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Tisdale United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the church from 11:30 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Tisdale United Methodist Church.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Houghton was born April 11, 1917, in Powell, Wyo., to Ifa (Porter) and Vernon Brothers. Her family moved to Winfield where she graduated from Winfield High School and attended Southwestern College.

On June 15, 1945, she married Alfred J. Houghton in Tisdale.

A homemaker, she was a member of Tisdale United Methodist Church and the Tisdale Womens Society of Christian Service.

Her husband died Dec. 27, 1978. After living in Winfield most of her life, she moved to Perry to be close to family.

Survivors include a son, Arlan Houghton, Perry; a daughter, Muriel Elder, St. Joseph, Mo., a sister, Ruth Tredway, Chanute; and eight grandchildren.
