Deceased Name: Joan Houghton Roberts
LANDIS - Joan Carol Houghton Roberts, of Landis, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Born March 2, 1933, in Niagara County, N.Y., to the late Albert Houghton and Mildred Houghton, Mrs. Roberts was educated in Niagara County schools. While she was in school, she played basketball until the 10th grade and was also a majorette. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis.

Mrs. Roberts loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She worked as a winder for 30 years at Linn Corriher Mills. After she retired from the mill, she worked part-time in Rowan County Schools cafeterias.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Junior Roberts, on Feb. 2, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a brother.

Survivors include sons Tim Roberts and wife Kim of Rockwell, Carey Roberts and wife Darlene of Concord and Bob Roberts of Landis; daughter Debora Bost of Concord; and grandchildren Angel Roberts, Nicole Roberts Cedillos, April Roberts Keener, Brittany Roberts, Sara Bost, Hayley Roberts and Kaitlin Weber.

Service: A graveside funeral service is to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove conducted by the Rev. Jarrod Lanning.

Visitation: Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mrs. Roberts.

Memorials: Trinity Lutheran Church, 108 W. Rice St., Landis, NC 28088.

The Roberts family is being served by Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis.¹

EAST LONGMEADOW - Shirley C. Houghton, 82, died Sunday September 17, 2006 with her caring family by her side. Shirley was born in Springfield October 16, 1923, a daughter of the late Howard and Beatrice ( Killam ) Loomis. She lived in East Longmeadow for 52 years and attended local schools. She was a graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School. Shirley worked for a number of years at Sunshine Card Co. in East Longmeadow and also at Olympia Card in Enfield, CT. Shirley enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and arts and crafts of all sorts. Shirley was a member of the First Congregational church of East Longmeadow and the Senior Friendship Club at the Senior Center. Shirley leaves her loving husband of 62 years, Robert E. Houghton; her daughter, Barbara Stachowiak and her husband Robert of Ft. Wayne, IN; a son Robert E. Jr., of Springfield; a son Steven and his wife Nancy of Springfield; a brother, Robert Loomis and his wife Mary of Springfield; she was predeceased by her sister, Majorie Taylor; five grandchildren; one great grandson and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday Sept. 22nd at 1: 30 p.m. at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, Ma 01028 followed by a burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Parker St., Spfld. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Friendship Club, 328 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028
