W. Ï. Houghton Jr.
Sparta — Funeral service were held here Monday for William I. Houghton Jr. who died Thursday. Mr. Houghton, a general contractor in Newton, died at home here of a heart attack. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Somerville and attended the high school until 1932. He moved to Sparta 12 years ago from Newton, but continued his membership in the Dutch Reformed Church in Finderne. His widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Hardin Houghton, two sons, William 1. Houghton 3rd and Stephen I. Houghton, and his daughter Elizabeth Houghton, survive. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William 1. Houghton Sr. of Newton, and three sisters, Mrs. James Drake of County Line Rd.Branchburg, Mrs. Charles Fountain of Branchville, and Mrs. Maurice Brachhausen of Rahway.

Mr. Houghton was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Church, Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Katherine Sheckelton Houghton; a son, Don, and a daughter, Carol, both at home.
The Houghton Funeral Home of Jersey City is handling arrangements.

Charles F. Houghton Sr., 63, rural Nortonville, Kan., died June 18, 1992, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Cremation. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the O'Trimble Chapel, Nortonville. The family suggests contributions to the Atchison Catholic Elementary Schools. Mr. Houghton was born in Doniphan, Kan., and lived in California and Atchison before moving to Nortonville 16 years ago. He worked for Rockwell International in Atchison for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Atchison. Survivors include his wife, Berthena Houghton of the home; two sons, James R. Houghton and Charles F. Houghton Jr., and a daughter, Regina R. McCullough, all of Nortonville; a half sister, Cleo Morrison, Atchison; and two grandchildren.
