CHERRYFIELD - David Houghton passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in Cherryfield. David was born June 10, 1941, in Lynn, Mass., to Austin S. Houghton and Barbara Martin.

He was honorably discharged from USN. He was a lifetime fisherman and mechanic. His love for the water ran through his veins as deep as his love for his grandchildren until the day he passed away.

Survived by his two daughters, Julia Houghton of New York, and Danielle Madruga of Beverly, Mass; his grandchildren, Michael and Jillian Madruga; his son, Austin Houghton with grandchildren, Skyy Tenney; and David's "special friend," Angelia Tenney in Cherryfield. Also, survived by brothers, Jerry Houghton of Salem, Mass., and Charles Houghton of Bath. David was predeceased by his father, Austin S. Houghton; his mother, Barbara Martin-Houghton; and sister, Clair Gerard. David will be sorely missed and always loved by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.

Born April 29, 1924, in Winchester, KY; he was the son of the late Jess Franklin and Stella Mae Snowden. He was a graduate of Winchester High School and Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Kentucky. Mr. Snowden was a World War II veteran having served as a Marine in the Pa- cific Theatre. A teacher, coach and assistant Superintendant of the Danville School system, he was a very thoughtful and sharing man who had great love for his family, friends and community. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, reading and listening to music. Survivors include his wife, Jane

Mrs. Houghton was a life resident of Syracuse. She retired in 1956 from Dey Brothers Department Store.

Her husband, Earl, died in 1959.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Gail Samuels Ciecierski of Montclair, N.J., and Sue Samuels Gunn of Hamburg, N.J; two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
