CHERRYFIELD - David Houghton passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in Cherryfield. David was born June 10, 1941, in Lynn, Mass., to Austin S. Houghton and Barbara Martin.

He was honorably discharged from USN. He was a lifetime fisherman and mechanic. His love for the water ran through his veins as deep as his love for his grandchildren until the day he passed away.

Survived by his two daughters, Julia Houghton of New York, and Danielle Madruga of Beverly, Mass; his grandchildren, Michael and Jillian Madruga; his son, Austin Houghton with grandchildren, Skyy Tenney; and David's "special friend," Angelia Tenney in Cherryfield. Also, survived by brothers, Jerry Houghton of Salem, Mass., and Charles Houghton of Bath. David was predeceased by his father, Austin S. Houghton; his mother, Barbara Martin-Houghton; and sister, Clair Gerard. David will be sorely missed and always loved by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.

Born April 29, 1924, in Winchester, KY; he was the son of the late Jess Franklin and Stella Mae Snowden. He was a graduate of Winchester High School and Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Kentucky. Mr. Snowden was a World War II veteran having served as a Marine in the Pa- cific Theatre. A teacher, coach and assistant Superintendant of the Danville School system, he was a very thoughtful and sharing man who had great love for his family, friends and community. Mrs. Houghton, who was born in Highland Park, Mich., died Sunday in her Winnetka home. After teaching for nine years in Muskegon, Mich., she moved to the Winnetka area in 1968. Since 1980 she had taught at the reading center at New Trier Township High School. A master's graduate in theater from the University of Michigan, she had been actively involved in the summer stock of the North Shore Community Theater for the last 10 years.
