Arthur R. Houghton
Arthur R. Houghton. 46. a Marine veteran of World War II who fought at Guadalcanal and in other campaigns in the South Pacific, died yesterday in Phoenix Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mr. Houghton. 3508 W. Hadley, was employed the past 11 years as a postal clerk in Phoenix. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Phoenix and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Glendale and the Methodist Church.
Born in Amsterdam. N.Y., he moved to Phoenix from there 12 years ago.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Maryvale Mortuary. 6901 W. Indian School. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park with the VFW honor guard officiating. Friends may call tomorrow at the mortuary.
Surviving are his wife. Naomi B; three daughters. Florence. Jeanne and Frances, all ¡of Phoenix; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Houghton of Gloversville, N.Y; a sister, i Mrs. Marjorie Warner of Pitts- ' ford. N.Y; two brothers, David and Donald, both of Glovers- : ville. two stepchildren. Lucinda and David Lucas, both of Phoenix.

MINERVA -- Olive Frances Houghton died Sunday, December 2, 2001 at the Tri-County Nursing Home, North Creek, NY. Born October 4, 1918, Olive was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Houghton. During World War II, Ollie was overseas with the Red Cross in Rome and Florence. She and her sister, Peggy, who was a nurse from Albany with the 33rd General Hospital, met in Rome. Their brothers, Ed and Hank were serving overseas. Ed with the Army Air Corps in Italy and England and Hank, as a paratrooper in France and Belgium. Having graduated from St. Rose College and after getting her master's degree, she became a teacher with the Army of occupation in Japan and Okinowa. During the years 1950-1956, she was educational advisor in the U.S. Army Education Program in the Far East. She was later promoted to a command level position. Ollie had the deepest respect for the philosophy of being responsible for promoting an education, proper for our military personnel. In the 1960's, Ollie studied at Oxford and toured the British Isles and her ancestral home, Ireland. Ollie's great loves in life were skiing and hunting, but her true love was teaching. She took students to Russia on a field trip and always was trying to get the very best out of her students as she gave her very best. A fond memory of her's was the summer she spent at Broadloff and took part in a very moving graduation ceremony. Ollie was truly loved by her students, her family and her friends. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry (Hank) Houghton and her sister, Peggy Houghton Piontka. She is survived by her brother, Edgar A. Houghton of Albany. Also several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Olmstedville. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, PO Box 548, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.³

Amy E. Houghton, 67, Deerland Road, Long Lake, died Wednesday at her home. In 1957, Ms. Houghton enlisted in the Army, serving in Korea and Germany as an operating room technician and at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. She retired Jan. 31, 1978, after 20 years of service. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Long Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Born Feb. 9, 1930, at Long Lake, a daughter of Alvin and Martha Houghton Houghton, she graduated from Long Lake Central School and was employed by Upstate Telephone as an operator.
