Deceased Name: Doyne LaVal Houghton died of heart complications Aug. 24, 1999, at his Valdez home. He was 61. Services and burial were held Aug. 28 in Valdez. Mr. Houghton was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Yakima, Wash. He initially moved to Alaska in 1947. He graduated from high school in old-town Valdez and later barbered for many years in Anchorage. Mr. Houghton was ordained as a minister in 1983 at Abbott Loop Christian Center and moved to Valdez to pastor Valdez Christian Fellowship. He retired in 1992 and opened his current barbershop the following year. His family said: ''He was completely devoted to both the Lord Jesus Christ and his close-knit family, and his favorite days were spent with this family and two golden retrievers at his house in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, on 30 acres of land that he called Swiftwood. ''He loved to be outside and spent many days from the time he was a teenager hunting and hiking through the wilderness. ''Doyne will be remembered by his family and friends as an easy-going man with a steadfast faith, gentle spirit and loving heart. His wisdom and quiet sense of humor will also be sorely missed.'' Mr. Houghton is survived by his wife, Kay, and five daughters, Beth, Annalisa, Kristi, Holly and Rebecca, all of Valdez; daughter and son, Cathi Chapman and Dan Joos; father, Les; brother, Stan; sister, Anita, all of Oregon; and seven nieces. ObituaryRonald William Houghton, 76, passed away on July 24th 2016 at his son's home in Occoquan, Virginia.

Born in Watertown, New York, he was the son of Cecil Oscar Houghton and Susan Florance Pierce. He was best know as a real estate developer and builder in the town of Occoquan with his wife, Joy. He was best know as a builder of homes in the Town of Occoquan. He left school at an early age and joined the Air Force as a 17-year-old. After the Air Force he located in Washington DC in the early 1960s and became a dance instructor for Arthur Murray. While there he met his future wife, Joy. The two married on Sept. 18, 1962. He eventually changed trades and became a carpenter, in time he rose to the position of a site supervisor for Carr homes. Together, they built their first home in the Town of Occoquan in 1979. In 1983, they acquired the historic property Rockledge Mansion and restored it following a 1980 arson. He built or restored 10 properties in the town.

He was a member of the Lake Ridge ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The community leader worked with many organizations during his life including serving on the Occoquan Town Council in the 1980's. He was very active in his church. He was known and loved by many for his kind disposition and willingness to help others. He offered up his home, Rockledge, for dancing groups and was quick to offer a ballroom lesson to any one who asked. He smiled easily and worked with his hands in the last year of his life. He had a passion for design and spent many hours at his computer working on concept for a magnetic levitating train system. He touched many lives in ways large and small and never shared a harsh word.

He is survived by his only son, Lance Ronald Houghton and one granddaughter, Katherine Olivia Houghton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Joy, who passed peacefully in his presence in 2009.

He will be interred at the Quantico National Cemetery in a private ceremony on Aug. 1.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Susan Gonzoroski, Neitha Wilkey, Pamela Phillips and Teresa Unger; sons, Mark Burgess, Greg Burgess and James; sisters, Ethel Kohler, Olive Banks, Verna Meyers and Edna Thurston; brother, Robert Kelly; and 10 grandchildren.

Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Hospice Southwest.1

Pauline E. Houghton, 71, of 25 Eagle Drive, died Thursday morning at her home, where she was under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

While living in Monroe, Mrs. Houghton was a telephone operator at Highland Telephone.

Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Ricard, a daughter of Harry L. and Lydia Helbock Archibee, she was a 1946 graduate of Pulaski Academy.

She married Donald R. Houghton on Jan. 11, 1948, at First Baptist Church, Carthage, with the Rev. Earl E. Chanley, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Houghton was a volunteer for Girl Scouts of America in Carthage and Monroe. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. George (Julie) Shafer, West Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. John (Alice) Walker, Syracuse, and Anita Leana, Brantingham; two grandsons, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Three brothers, Arnold, Lee and Donald Archibee, died before her.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Virkler-Percoski Funeral Home, Lowville, with the Rev. John A. Shuck, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Lowville, officiating. Spring burial will be in Brantingham Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, N.Y. 13367.1
