ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Charles A. Houghton Jr., 81, of Zephyrhills, formerly of Worcester, a machinist for many years, and a longtime active Mason, died June 19 in East Pasco Medical Center after an illness.

His wife, Virginia (Chapman) Houghton, died June 7. He leaves two sons, Charles A. Houghton III of Holden and Steven R. Houghton of Mattherws, N.C; a daughter, Virginia A. Kalil of Worcester; two brothers, Elbert Houghton of Worcester and Robert Houghton in California; two sisters, Burtha Barto in Washington and Charlotte Raudio in California; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. He was born in Grosvenordale, son of Charles A. Houghton Sr. and Mildred (Williams) Houghton, and lived many years in Worcester and 18 years in Zephyrhills. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific, including the liberation of the Philippines. He received four Bronze Stars.

Mr. Houghton was a machinist at Norton Co. in Worcester for many years before he retired.

He was a longtime member of Greendale People's Church and Morning Star Lodge of Masons, both in Worcester. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, and a member of the Shriners Legion of Honor.

A memorial service was held yesterday in Bushnell. Inurement was in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Burns Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114; or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
