William A. Houghton, age 85, of Norton passed away on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at St. Elizabeths Medical Center in Brighton. He was the beloved longtime companion of Josephine Johnston, with whom he made his home. Born in Hingham, on Feb. 27, 1929, he was a loving son of the late William A. and Alice M. (Sammett) Houghton. He grew up in Hingham and was a 1946 graduate of Hingham High School. A resident of Norton for the past 55 years, Mr. Houghton was a self-employed farmer and the proud owner of Houghton Farm; a landmark in Norton which he established in 1959. Billy served on the Board of Directors for the Bristol County Farm Bureau, was a member of the Jersey Cattlemens Association, and was a supporter and former member of the 4-H Club in Hingham. A man of charitable nature, Billy enjoyed donating to
., amongst others. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethics and for the remarkable sense of humor he possessed. In addition to his companion Josephine, he was the dear brother of John Houghton and his wife Evelyn of Norton, Barbara Powers of Hingham and the late Charles Houghton. He is also survived by his many special friends in the farming community, as well as many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. in St. Marys Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 15, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Those wishing may remember William with a donation in his memory made to the East Middleboro 4-H Club, 183 Thompson St., Middleboro, MA 02346. Published in The Enterprise on Sept. 14, 2014³

Walter Houghton

April 20, 1923 - August 29, 2014
ORLAND AND BANGOR - Walter L. Houghton, 91, died in Bangor, August 29, 2014. Born in Hingham, MA on April 20, 1923, Walter was educated in the Hingham school system.

He worked many years for his grandfather, Charles Houghton in the family business, the Hingham Boat Livery. He worked for over 33 years for the US Government at the US Naval Ammunition Depot, Hingham MA and for the US Post Office and Postal Service, Hingham, MA. Walter served in the US Army, 759th Military Police Battalion, Berlin, Germany. He was active in all sports, teaching roller-skating for Sholes Rollerdome in Dorchester and Hull, MA and also playing football and baseball in the Quincy, MA park leagues. Walter was an avid candlepin bowler and golf player.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Houghton of Orlando, FL, his son, Robert Houghton of Orlando, FL, his son, David Houghton, his daughter in law, Elizabeth Houghton and his granddaughter, Samantha Houghton, all of Hampden. He was predeceased in 2012 by his beloved wife of 35 years, Ardith Clair Houghton.

A graveside service for the family was held on September 4, 2014 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Orland, with Reverend Peter Remick officiating. Arrangements were made by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home in Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Walter's memory to a charity of one's choice.
