Frank Pierce Houghton Jr., 67, of 71 Fairfield Ave. died Saturday in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield. He was a tractor-trailer driver for several local firms, and retired from Carolina Freight Co. of Windsor, Conn. in 1987. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard submarines in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Westfield Sportmen's Club. He leaves his wife, the former Marjorie Dalrymple; three sons, Frank P. III of Woronoco, William D. and Robert D., both of Westfield; a daughter, Donna Rosati of East Longmeadow; a brother, John D; a sister, Janet Mack, both of Westfield; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson. The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 East St., Pittsfield 01201.

Frances B. (McMorrow) Houghton, a retired Winchester teacher, died Saturday at the Orleans Convalescent and Retirement Center. She was 88 and lived in Eastham.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Houghton graduated from Girls' Latin High School and Boston State Teachers College. She earned a master's degree in education from Tufts University.

Mrs. Houghton taught in the Boston school system for eight years before moving to the Winchester system, where she taught in both elementary and secondary schools. She retired in 1965.

An avid gardener and painter, Mrs. Houghton also loved outdoor water activities, especially fishing and shellfishing.

She was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Eastham, where she had summered since the 1940s. After her retirement, she moved to Eastham from Woburn.

Mrs. Houghton leaves a son, Michael C. of Orleans; a daughter, Pamela A. Nobili of Eastham; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private.

Phyllis I. (Richason) Houghton, 73, of 73a Fairview St. died on Friday in Franklin Medical Center. Born here, she was a 1941 graduate of Greenfield High School. She moved to Barrington, R.I. in 1951, to Pittsfield in 1960, to Essex Junction in 1971, and to DeWitt, N.Y., in 1974. She became a summer resident of Martha's Vineyard in 1970, and moved their permanently in 1981. She returned here in 1988. She attended the First Baptist Church, and was a pastoral relations committeewoman. She belonged to the Senior Center, and was a voluntary bridge tutor there. She was a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club thrift store in Edgartown, and an auxiliary volunteer at the former Pittsfield General Hospital for many years. She also was a past chairwoman of the Pittsfield Chapter of the United Nations Children's Fund. Her husband, Raymond C. Houghton, died in 1984. She leaves three sons, Raymond C. Jr. of Slingerlands, N.Y., Scott D. of Simsbury, Conn., and Jerry A. of Billerica; a daughter, Thersa A. Gray of Great Barrington; a brother, Bruce of Bernardston; two sisters, Dorathea Hardwick of Plainfield, and Doris Whitney of Las Cruces, N.M; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and her friend, John Padlo. The funeral will be on Monday morning in the church, with the burial later in the day in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne. James Houghton, 84
OGUNQUIT - James T. Houghton Jr., 84, and a resident of Cherry Lane, died Nov. 14, 2001, at home after a brief illness. He was born in New York City on Jan. 30, 1917. He was a son of James and Mabel (Parsons) Houghton Sr. and attended the Albany Academy for Boys in Albany, New York. He then attended Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., from which he graduated cum laude in 1940. He was president of the student body, managed the school football team and was a member of the Chi-Psi Fraternity. He was employed by Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company in the Public Relations Department and later by the Springfield Revitalization Committee in Springfield, Mass. And in addition he taught at the American International College evening program for 25 years in Springfield, Mass., because of his expertise in public relations. He also served as Fire Commissioner for the City of Springfield. He served as Board President for many organizations including the Hampden District Mental Health Clinic, the City of Springfield Public Forum Series. He also served on the board of Trustees of the Bay State West.
A longtime summer resident of Ogunquit, coming since he was a boy and moving here in 1980 following his retirement. Painting, writing and music were his passion. He also built four sailboats, one with each of his children. He is survived by his four children, Christopher S. Houghton of Superior, Co., Alexander G. Houghton of Granada Hills, Calif., Pamela Houghton of Van Nuys, Calif., and Heather E. Houghton of Longmont, Colo. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.
Memorial Visiting hours were held on Tuesday Nov. 20, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.⁶
