Biography

Phebe was born on 9 June 1818 in Ellery Center, Chautauqua County, New York. The place of birth on her 1902 death certificate is not legible; it appears to be "Ellery" [both Ellery Center and West Ellery are in Chautauqua County], New York. Her birth date is calculated from her death date of 17 May 1902, less the age given on her death certificate of 87 years, 11 months and 7 days. She married Hiram Janes, Jr., on 4 March 1837 in Rock County, Wisconsin. [Janes, pages 286 and 358. Page 358 gives the date of their marriage as 4 March 1847, but because their first chilld was born 10 March 1838 it must have been 4 March 1837. Janes-Peek, page 221, also gives the date of their marriage as 4 March 1847.]. Phebe died on 17 May 1902, in Rock County, Wisconsin, at age 83. Her death certificate gives her age at death as 87 years, 11 months, 7 days and the cause of her death as old age and congestive apoplexy. [Rock County, Wisconsin, Deaths, Vol. 5 (1901-05), page 70, no. 203]. She was buried in North Johnstown Cemetery, Johnstown Township, Rock County, Wisconsin.

My husband is a descendant of Oramel Campbell. Would like to hear from you. I have not been able to find out any info on Philander after he married Louisa Janes. Seems to have disappeared. I had an address of a Philander in Lincoln and wrote to him,but no answer. That was 3 or 4 years ago. I thought he might have been a descendant of Philander as some of the family did go to NE.
