Luke Bromley was among the settlers of Warwick, RI, by 23 Jan 1648 as per the Settlers of town of Warwick in RI Historical Collections. He was a millwright living at Wiquetequock [sic, Wequetequock, within Stonington, Connecticut] near Westerly, RI. His first wife supposedly died in England. In Rhode Island he married Hannah, daughter of Thomas Stafford. His sons Luke, who settled on the Bromley land at Wiquetequock, and William, who settled New London, CT.

The first known reference to Thomas Stafford in a
primary source is his appearance on the list of inhabitants admitted to Newport, Rhode Island, after May 30, 1638. The Records of the Colony of Rhode Island include Thomas Stafford on the roll of freeman in Warwick in 1655. From this point he appears in a series of primary documents, the last of which, his will, was proved on 27 April 1678. He is buried in the Stafford Lot in Warwick, Rhode Island. Thomas's will was proved on on 27 April 1678. Thomas Stafford's will was proved 27 April 1678 and abstracted as follows: "to well beloved wife, Elizabeth, during her natural life one-half of dwelling house and also one-half of orchard, meadow lands, and two cows. To son, Thomas the other half of lands, " etc. Before specified and at the death of his wife Elizabeth their son Thomas was to have possession of his mother's half of the estate including two cows, also other lands were given to Thomas and the household bedding and other items were to be the possession of Elizabeth during his lifetime and afterwards divided between son Thomas and daughter Deborah Westcott. Daughter Deborah Westcott 1 cow, son Samuel 1 calf, son Joseph 1 calf, and to daughter Hannah Bromley 1 calf. Witnesses: John Potter and Amos Westcott.
