HOUGHTON, Maurice William Jr., 79, of Spring Hill, Fla., passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 8, 2008. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and moved to Spring Hill 34 years ago. He was a retired Nassau County, New York police officer and a retired Hernando County school bus driver. He was an accomplished musician, avid golfer and a member of Spring Hill Men' s Golf Association and Nassau Blue. His loving wife of 30 years, Lorraine, preceded him in death. He is survived by his spouse, Eileen; son, John of Spring Hill; daughters, Joanne Simkins, and her husband, Frank, of Brookhaven, Pa., Nancy Avenbacher, and her husband, Kevin, of Gladstone, N.J., Carole Johnsen, and her husband, Eric, of Spring Hill; sisters, Patricia Brown and Barbara Houghton, both of Sacramento, Calif; grandchildren, Emily, Billy, Maddy, Lauren, Alivia, Kyle, Katie and Jake; niece, Leslie; and nephews, Chris and Bill. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, at Turner Funeral Homes Spring Hill Drive Chapel. A private inurnment will take place at Grace Memorial Gardens. He was the son of the late Vernon R. and Kathryn Harlow Houghton. He was employed as an orthopedic tech at UVA, where he would have retired December of this year with 30 years of service; was an avid outdoorsman. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Guinn Houghton.

Born Aug. 9, 1942, in Charlottes-ville, he was the son of the late Vernon R. and Kathryn Harlow Houghton.
He was employed as an ortho-pedic tech at UVA, where he would have retired December of this year with 30 years of service; was an avid outdoorsman and a member of Float Fisherman of Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, Bar-bara Guinn Houghton of Charlottes-ville; his children, Daniel V. Hough-ton of Albemarle County; Teresa "Terry" L. Scott and her husband, Jim, of Greenwood and Catherine "Elaine" Sexton and her husband, Tommy, of Ruckersville; a sister, Carole Hoadley and her husband, Ron, of Albemarle County; six grandchildren, Cristina Foley and her husband, David, Jimmy Scott II, Jonathan Sexton, Chris Sexton, Tyler Sexton and Kirby Sexton; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan Foley; a niece, Kellie Sav-vides; and a nephew, Travis Hoad-ley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Henry N.F. Minich officiating.
Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.
Hill & Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Deceased Name: Viola Houghton
Viola B. Houghton, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at her son's home in Billerica after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William H. Houghton.

She was born in Newfoundland on Jan. 13, 1913.

She was a former member of the New Colony Baptist Church in Billerica where she was very active in past years.

Mrs. Houghton had also been a member of the Assembly of God Church in Burlington. A United States citizen since 1957, she has resided in Billerica since 1961.

She loved to garden, everything from flowers to vegetables. She also enjoyed cooking and canning her own fruits and vegetables.

She is survived by her two sons, James Houghton and his wife, Gail, in Florida, and Leonard Houghton and his wife, Debra, of Billerica; four grandchildren; her sister, Selina Bishop of Ontario, Canada; her niece, Shirley Price and her husband, Gordon, of Ontario, Canada; her sister-in-law, Edna Houghton in Florida.

A funeral service was held Feb. 20 from the Burns Funeral Home in Billerica. Burial was in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
