New York, NY, USA, Dr. K Grant Age 70, of Elmira, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Grant was born July 7, 1933, a son of Kenneth G. and Phyllis Bush Houghton. He is predeceased by his first wife Barbara Callahan Houghton. Grant is survived by his wife Patricia Chalmers Houghton; children, Martha Houghton Bonan with husband Michael and children Emma and Stephen of Glens Falls, NY, Michael E. Houghton of New York City, Jennifer C. Houghton of Syracuse, NY, Andrew K. Houghton with wife Maria and children Nicholas and Lee of Charlotte, NC and Amy E. Houghton of New York City. Also surviving are brother and sister-in-law Phillip B. and Barbara Houghton of Rochester, NY; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and John Losee of Easton, PA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Susan Chalmers of Elmira and John and Jenny Chalmers of Seattle, WA; along with several nieces and nephews. Grant graduated from local schools and went on and received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University. He then went into the U. S. Navy achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After the service Grant went to dental school at Fairleigh Dickenson University in Rutgers, NJ. Grant was a long time dentist in the Elmira area, having both a private practice and heading the dental clinic at the New York State Department of Corrections. He was a member of the 6th District Dental Society, the Elmira Country Club and a former member of the Elmira Rotary Club. Grant enjoyed pencil sketching and time spent with his family.

Houghton, 92, of the Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Care Center and former resident of Shelter Island and Glen Head NY, died on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Yonkers NY on July 16, 1909. She was the wife of the late Alfred J. Houghton and had been a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Houghton was the longtime president of the Glen Head Garden Club. Cathleen was the aunt of Maureen Toohey of Sarasota FL; the great aunt of Francine Schumacher of Clifton Park, Virginia Hunt of New York City, Bernadette Whitaker of CT and Teresa Hartig of PA. She was the great-great aunt of David, Christian and Elizabeth Schumacher and a dear friend to Mary and Robert Mietlicki of Clifton Park. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church in Ushers NY. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.²

LCPL Jarod L. Houghton, 22, died unexpectedly in the line of duty on Saturday, August 2, 2003.The son of Janice Fuller and Alfred Houghton Jr., he was a graduate of Newfield High School and Parris Island USMC stationed at Cherry Point, NC after completing a tour of duty in Okinawa.He is survived by his stepfather, Harold Pierce; brothers, Alfred Houghton III and Alex Houghton; grandparents, James and Delores Fuller; aunts and uncles, Jeanette Zimmer, Joan and Don Goodier, Jinny and Steve Gardner, Jane and Bill Witkowski, Anna C. Callahan, Malcolm Houghton; cousins, Fay Murphy, Jeannine Russell, Jackie Brock, Jim Guthrie, Jennifer Guthrie, and Kacie Witkowski; also aunts and uncles, Harold and Helen Rorick, Debbie Houghton, Janet Houghton, and Paul Houghton.Graveside services and interment with full military honors at Woodlawn National Cemetery will be held Friday, August 8, 2003 at 11 a.m. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, donations in Jarod's memory may be made to Cops, Kids and Toys, c/o Officer Michael Koval, Ithaca Police Department.
