Russell Houghton

Russell Houghton, 71, Michigan City, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 3, 1998) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.

There will not be any visitation. Cremation will take place. The Ott-Haverstock Funeral Home, Michigan City, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Houghton was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Monon, Ind., the son of Walter and Emma Banes Houghton. On July 1, 1950, in Michigan City, he married Virginia Foss, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jeanette (John) Worek, Michigan City; a son, Phillip Houghton, Houston; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Kenneth Houghton, Monticello, Ind., and Almon Houghton, North Ridge, Calif.

Mr. Houghton was a retired Michigan City Fire fighter with 20 years of service. He also worked for Bloksom & Co.

He was affiliated with the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Mr. Houghton also served in the Merchant Marine. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Christmas in April.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.2

MONTICELLO Kenneth Max Houghton» 92 of Monticello, passed away at 12:20 pm» Thursday, September 2,2021 at White Oak Health Campus. He was born on April 29, 1929 in Monon to the late Walter Franklin and Emma Etta (Banes) Houghton. On August 7,1949 he married Wanetta Ann "Pete" Bush at the Yeoman United Methodist Church and she survives.
Ken was a 1947 graduate of Monticello High School and a 1952 graduate of Purdue University. He served Army ROTC while al Purdue During
WWII.
He worked for Amoco Oil Corporation as a distribution manager, retiring after 36 years in June of 1988. During his career he and Pele lived in five different stales and 26 different homes.
I le was a lifelong Methodist and for many years a member of Moni icello United Methodist Church. I le was a member ol the Moose Lodge, Detroit Oil Mens Club and Tippecanoe County Club. I le also was past director of Junior Achievement and past president of the Monticello Kiwanis Club. Ken was a charter member of SFLEC in Monticello. He enjoyed golfing almost every day after his retirement and made a hole in one in Bradenton, FL. Ken enjoyed watching professional football, lie built doll houses for his granddaughters. Ken had an incredible life changing experience when he went on a mission trip to Honduras to help build a school. Kenneth's greatest accomplishment was being married to " Pete" tor 72 years and sharing the raising of their children together which fulfilled his dream ol a happy family.

Along with his wife "Pete", Ken is survived by his children, ferry (Kathy) Houghton of Monticello, Vicki Lynn (logan) Lenahan of Downers Grove, II., Jeffery Max (I indy) Houghton of Saginaw, Ml, Jack Alan (Candace) Houghton of Kansas City, KS and Valeri Ann (Steve) Frank of Monticello; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Almon, Wayne and Russell Houghton.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 5,202I from noon until time of sendees celebrating Kenneth’s life at 2pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rev. Don Johnson and Ken’s son Jack Houghton officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello.
Memorial contributions maybe given to the White County Food Pantry, the Monticello Kiwanis Club or to the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Annie Nita (Hiltz) Hutt, Marriott's Cove. She was an avid bridge player, square dancer, and a retired member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chester Volunteer Fire
Department; a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Chester Basin and later St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. She is survived by daughters, Sharon, Chester; Kathi (Sterling) DeLong, Middle River; sisters, Ada (Doug) Little, Marriott's Cove; June Collier, Halifax; grandchildren, Cindy, Kentville; Ryan, Halifax; many nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Tim; brothers, Elroy and Harry; sisters, Sherley and Opal. No visitation or funeral service by request. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bayview Cemetery, Chester, Rev. Sean Taylor officiating.
