Michael Best served in the late war, enlisting April 21, 1861, in the three months service; was a member of Company B, 14th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry; he was discharged August 13, 1861; he re-enlisted in October, 1861, joining Battery H First Ohio Volunteer Artillery; was honorably discharged in January, 1864, and re-enlisted as a veteran in that year; discharged June 13, 1865. His parents,
Jacob and Lucy Best, both deceased, settled in Lucas county in 1846. He was born in Germany, December 15, 1839. He is a resident of Washington township; was married in Lucas county, Ohio, June 11, 1866. His wife, Adelia, whose parents, Lyman and Keren (Wolverton) Haughton, settled in Lucas county in 1833, was born in that county, August 27, 1838. Her children are: James Orin, born April 29, 1867; Mabel E., November 30, 1868; Althea M., September 11, 1870; Lyman A., September 25, 1872; Conray Ray, March 26, 1875, died November 19, 1875; Elvie, July 28, 1876. John C. Best, a brother of Michael, enlisted in Michigan, in February, 1864. He was wounded at the battle of the Wilderness in 1864. Mr. Best is engaged in farming, fruit raising, and dairy business. Address, Wagon Works, Lucas county, Ohio.¹
