Obituary

Carol Ann Houghton, 83, was ushered into heaven on November 5, 2022, surrounded by loving family in her New Boston home. She was the beloved wife of Raymond “Ray” Houghton (deceased, 2013) with whom she shared 54 happy years together.

Carol was one of eight children born to Roland and Pauline Gelinas of Manchester, NH. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Ray, brothers Roland Gelinas of Raymond, Richard Gelinas of Laconia, and a sister, Beverly Bangs of Nashua.

In April of 1959, Ray and Carol married at St. Patrick’s Church in Manchester, NH. They met when Carol’s brother, Roland, served in the Navy with Ray, and brought him home on leave to meet his family, and the rest is history. In 1963, Carol and Ray moved into the New Boston community and raised a family.

Carol leaves behind six daughters: Karen R. Coleman (Dave) of Wyoming; Kathi E. Schultz (Carl) of Michigan; Kelly A. Houghton (Leigh) of NH; Kristi J. Citak (Paul) of NH; Kimberly M. Jackson (Eric) of NH; and Kasey P. Houghton (Joseph) of MA. Her legacy includes eleven beloved grandchildren (Elizabeth, Julianne, Natalie, Carl D., Brian, Nathan, Amanda, Ray, Carey, Benjamin and Jacob), and seven very sweet great-grandchildren (Abigail, Elizabeth, Arthur, Stella, Nolan, Alexander, and Hailey) along with four precious cats she rescued as kittens.

Carol had a great zeal for life built around family and lifelong friends. She was gifted with passions for genealogy research, painting, drawing, cooking, sewing, bird-watching, and gardening; her prized peonies, azaleas, giant rhododendrons and five-foot tall bee balm were a yearly spectacular display. She loved the beach, and was fortunate to hear the sound of the ocean one last time in October. She had a ready-laugh, and a love for adventure and travel; exploring Alaska, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, and the Caribbean as a few of her favorites. Carol was a beloved wife, cherished mother, respected auntie, devoted grandmother and proud great-grandmother, affectionately known as Nanny. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

A celebration of life service will be held November 18th, 2022, 11 a.m. at the Community Church of New Boston, 2 Meetinghouse Hill Road, New Boston, NH followed by a graveside burial at New Boston Cemetary. Subsequently, a luncheon will be held in the New Boston Church Dignard Room.
