Donald was a lifelong resident of Carthage, ME, and was a son of Leo and Thelma (Hutchinson) Houghton. He attended local schools and served in the US Army as SGT from 1959 to 1961 and he also served in the National Guard. He worked with his dad as a woodsman and logger. His time spent working in the woods a total of 32 years. He also was a construction laborer and driver of trucks during the mud season to fill in his time.

He loved to play baseball; he was on Skidgell’s Slow Pitch man’s team until he was about 57 years old. He enjoyed music and played bass guitar in country western bands. He was the President for a year and then a trail master for several years for the Webb River Snowmobile Club. He was also a firefighter for the Carthage Fire Dept. for 15 years. He served as a selectman for 9 years and was also a Transfer Station Attendant. He liked to duck hunt, deer hunt and walk in the woods to take pictures of the wildlife. He liked to study the history of Carthage.

Survivors include two sisters, June Turner of Carthage and Leola Poirier of Bozrah, CT, two brothers, Emeral Houghton and wife Betty of Carthage and Lawrence of Carthage.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Collis, Arletta, Leroy, Charlie, Conrid and Kermit.

LEWISTON Chartes B. Houghton Sr.. 76. of Carthage. passed away on Monday. Aug. 26. with family by his bedside at Central Maine Medical Center Charlie was
bom in Carthage on Nov. 17, 1906, to Leo and Thelma Houghton. He entered the Army National Guard in 1950. and studied heavy equipment machinery with the 6th Armored Calvary at Fort Dix. N-J. Post military service, he returned to Maine and married Frances Hutchinson in 1963. Charlie worked as a logger for most of his life. Including 30 years with Tiraberlands Inc._t in Dixfield. In 1904, he put his chainsaw down and began working as an equipment operator, building logging roads and landings throughout Maine. For many years in the 1971-73. he raced at Oxford Plains; Speedway where he enjoyed success and fan support. He was an avid sportsman, with a love of hunting and a great respect for nature. He shared his passion with his family and friends until his final days. Charlie was a special man who endeavored to do everything right, because everything has a right way to be done. This whs evident in his drawing, writing, throwing of a curve ball or knuckball, hunting deer and coyotes. driving his race car, playing his guitar and singing in his band, inventing devices to assist in work, fixing machines and culling or welding steel. If he could see it and study it. he could fix it. play it, drive it and even build it. His many nieces, nephews and extended family knew his love and cherished his company.
He is survived by his wile of 50 years. Frances; his daughter. Melanie Harvey and husband. Bob, of Poland: daughter Melinda Qulrinn and husband, Spencer, of Toano. Va.: son. Charles , jr. and wife. Amanda. of Carthage; son. Linwood and wife. Jill, of Gorham; Clifton and wife, Lori, of Carthage; grandchildren. Leya and Ragyn Harvey, Mathew Pagurko, Macy Pagurko and Myles Quirion, Charles Houghton III. Ivy and Nolan Houghton. Cole and Cady Houghton, Cody and Mackenzie Houghton; and his pet dog. Mae. and cats. Noah and Lily. He is predeceassed by his brothers, Leroy, Conrid and Kerrnit; and sisters. Corless, Kemeritis and Arletta Clark.
