Aug. 20, 1930 -June 21, 2011 ELKHART - Susan J. Houghton, 80, of Elkhart, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Golden Living Center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Elkhart to Harvey J. and Dorothy (Rogers) Miller. On July 29, 1951, in Elkhart, she married Richard M. Houghton.

He died Feb. 29, 2000, in Elkhart.

Surviving are a son, Christopher Houghton of Elkhart; two daughters, Kathy (Rick) Beasley of Cassopolis, Mich., and Marsha Newman of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; and one greatgranddaughter.

Also surviving are one brother, Sonny (Retha) Miller, and two sisters, Becky Youst and Pat Leighton, all of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kerry Houghton; three sisters, June Collins, Donna Nusbaum and Liz Hoke; and two brothers, Harvey Miller Jr. and Raymond "Nick" Miller.

Susan was a self-taught piano player and teacher. She began playing the piano at age 4. She was a member of the Elkhart Christian Assembly. She received her GED at age 57 and was the valedictorian of her class.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at WindingWaters Brethren Church, 420W. C. R. 4, Elkhart. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Pastor Craig Garber of the Christian Fellowship of Goshen will preside, and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.¹
