ObituaryJun 1, 1942Funeral services for James Arlon Houghton, 83, native of Athens, who died Friday, was to be held this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock at bis Saxtons River home. Rev. J. L. Peacock was to officiate. Burial was to take place In Oak HU1 cemetery here. Mr. Houghton died at his home Friday evening after a three-month Illness. Although an Athens native, he spent his entire lifetime in Saxtons River. His first wife, who died in 1926. was Julia A. Chapman. His second marriage was to Nellie Richardson. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. j Arthur Mundell of Saxtons River, and two granddaughters, Mrs. John Lawrence of Saxtons River and Mrs. Her-ert Hamilton of Claremont. N. H. He also leaves four great-grandchildren. Mr. Houghton was a member of the Bellows Falls Lodge of Odd Fellows.

Frank Herbert Houghton, master mechanic for the Springfield Electric Railway company, died last Thursday afternoon after a brief illness from double pneumonia. In his position he had charge of all the electrical business of the company, which included about everything in connection with the cars, and was so conscientious in the discharge of his duties that he was inclined to overwork and thus weakened his powers of resistance to the disease which attacked him. He went to the car barn as usual the Saturday morning before his death but before noon the disease had already so sapped his strength and energy that he was obliged to go back to the home that he was never again to leave alive.
Mr. Houghton was born in Rockingham, Sept 25, 1887, a son of James Houghton, now a resident of Saxtons River, and is survived by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Mundell of Springfield, Mass. He left, too, a young wife—nee M. Carlotta Hazelton of Claremont, N. H.—to whom he was married Oct. 3, 1917, and who has been herself prostrated by illness since her husband’s death. On his first coming to Springfield, he worked about a year for the Fellows Gear Shaper company but for the last four years had been with the electric road.
Before her marriage and after the death of her parents, Mrs. Houghton made her home with her aunt, Mrs. Truman R. McQuaid, in Claremont, and a cousin, Miss Amy L. McQuaid of that place, has been with her during the trying hours of her bereavement She has also had all the comfort and assistance that could be given by her other cousins, Clarence Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Hazelton, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. McQuaid of Springfield, an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Richardson of Olive street and the many friends who feel the deepest sympathy for her. As soon as she is able she will accompany Miss McQuaid to Claremont for a period of recuperation.
The funeral service took place at the home on Park street Sunday afternoon with Rev. R. A. Beardslee of the Congregational church officiating, and burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Bellows Falls. The flowers were exquisite and in great profusion. Besides the parents of the deceased, there were present from out of town the sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mundell of Springfield, Mass; four uncles and an aunt, Col. Ellsworth Houghton of Bellows Falls, Ransom Richardson of Sutton, Mass., Alvin Richardson of Williamsville, Lorenzo and Miss Nellie Richardson of Bellows Falls.
The young man was a member of the Saxtons River lodge of Odd Fellows and the bearers were from that fraternity—George Buchanan, William LeClair, Henry Davis and Earl Martin.

Mr*. Julia Hopkins Wheeler passed away quite suddenly at the home of her son, Carroll Houghton, Thursday night. She was born March 21, 1873, the son of Eastman T. and Mary Laird Hopkins.
She attended the graded schools of Cabot, and attended Goddard I Seminary in 1891. She received her teacher’s certificate which permitted her to teach school in Vermont on April 5, 1892. For a few years she taught school in Cabot.
She was married to George B. Houghton on Dec. 2, 1896. One son was born to this union, Carroll, who survives, also three grand sons, four granddaughters, one great | grandson. She also leaves a brother, Ralph E. Hopkins, and several nephews and nieces.
The deceased was married to Winnie L. Wheeler on July 31, 1906; he passed away Nov. 29, 1930.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at her late home at 2 p. m.
The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved relatives.

EUGENE—Clyde Lester Houghton, 87, former Albany resident most recently of Eugene, died this morning at a nursing home here. Private graveside service was held today in Skyline Memorial Gardens la Portland. Chapel of Memories Funeral Home of Eugene was in charge of He wee born June 18,1800, in Barn, Vermont. He married Josephine Elisabeth Qolemboake March IS, ISIS In Montana. She survives.
In 1813 he moved to Albany, where be lived until moving to this area in 1873. He was a retired employee of the Southern Pacific Transporta lion Co. He was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church and an honoráry life member of the Railway Patrolmen International. Survivors besides his widow include a daughter, June Vieri tng of Eugene; a son, Bryce E of Milton, Maas; eight grandchildren; and two great

She married Solomon Joseph Martinell, son of Joseph Belonjoe Martinell and Martha Emmoline (Thomas) Martinell, on 27 Jan. 1917 at Parsonage Methodist E. Church, Harlowton, Wheatland County, Montana.

She and Solomon appeared on the census of 5 April 1930 at San Bernardino, San Bernardino, California. She and Solomon appeared on the census of 19 April 1940 at 1232 21st. St., San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., California. Their daughter and son-in-law were living with them.

Lucy died on 4 Sep. 1963 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California, and was buried at Montecito Memorial Park, Colton, San Bernardino County, California. Her memorial has biographical material and links to those of family members.
