She was born in Granville, N.Y., Aug. 4, 1911, the daughter of William and Ruby (Clark) Barnard. She was a graduate of Granville High School and Middlebury College. She married William Dolt on Oct. 7, 1950. Mrs. Dolt was a member of the Rutland Garden Club, the Wallingford Bridge Club, Browns Study Club of Granville, N.Y., the Vermont Nature Conservancy and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science and of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford. Dorothy (Houghton) Wales, 87, of Nashua, died at Southern NH Medical Center on November 9, 2008 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Montague, Massachusetts on October 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Shirley and Edna (Kingsley) Houghton. She had been a resident of Nashua for the past 20 years.

Mrs. Wales was the wife of Roger S. Wales. They shared 33 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm Davis.

She was employed as an Administrative secretary for GTE (now General Dynamics) in Needham.

She is remembered as a caring and unselfish lady, who was very devoted to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was also an avid walker.

Mrs. Wales was a longtime member of the Leominster Art Association. She had a passion for painting and had received numerous awards for her artwork.

She was educated in Massachusetts and after her graduation from high school, she attended Baker Path College.

In addition to her husband Roger of Nashua, she is survived her son, Kenneth Davis of Needham, Mass; her daughter, Tammy Carle of Nashua; her grandchildren, Adam Carle of Nashua, Gavin and Clive Davis, both of Needham; and her three sisters in Vermont.

SERVICES: There are no visiting hours. A Funeral Service in her honor will be held at the DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock St., Nashua on Thursday morning at Eleven o'clock. George L. Houghton

1948 - 2014 DUMMERSTON - George L. Houghton, 66, of Route 5 in Dummerston, a lifelong resident of Dummerston, died early Monday morning, May 26, 2014, at his home, following a brief illness. Mr. Houghton was born on Feb. 20, 1948, the son of John and Mildred Mortimer Houghton. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro, graduating from Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1966. He proudly served his country in the Army, serving one tour during the Vietnam War. George was employed by the State of Vermont Dept. of Transportation for 34 years, working as a patrolman. He retired from his position in 2006. He also worked several years for Steve Glabach Contractors. He held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5 and the VFW Carl Dessaint Post #1034. George was known by all as a "jack of all trades." Of his leisure time activities, he enjoyed maple sugaring and puttering around his property. He was married to Donna Pond, who predeceased him after 30 years of marriage. On Aug. 22, 2004, in Dummerston, he was married to Emilia Falcetti, who survives. Besides his wife of ten years, he leaves one son, Eric Houghton and wife, Michelle, of Dummerston; two stepsons, Peter and Joseph Palombella of Holyoke, Mass; three sisters, Ruth Barton and husband, Merrill, of Dummerston, Linda Arsenault of St. James City, Fla., and Betty Ann Hayden and husband, Robert, of Westfield, Mass; six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial gathering will be held at the F.O. Eagles Aerie #1246, 54 Chickering Drive in Brattleboro, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. 84, of Landisville, died at home Friday after a long illness.

Mrs. Houghton was a food service manager for 15 years at United Zion Home, Lititz. She retired in 1983. She then worked part time in the dietary department of Landis Homes.

A graduate of Enosburg Falls (Vt.) High School, she earned her associate degree in home economics at Green Mountain Junior College, Poultney, Vt.

She was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church, where she was in the senior ministry and senior singles.

Mrs. Houghton was past president and a member of Town and Country Garden Club of Lancaster.

She enjoyed bowling, bridge, cooking, gardening, needlework and painting.

Born in Enosburg, Vt., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Clara M. Woodward Nichols.

She was married 54 years to H. Robert Houghton.

Surviving are two sons, Henry Robert Jr. and Timothy N., both of Eugene, Ore; a daughter, Susan A., married to William E. Klinefelter, with whom she lived; and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Marion E. Scarborough of Jacksonville, Fla., Eleanor M., married to Leonard W. Aurand of Raleigh, N.C., and Lois E. Pfeifer of Fulton, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a son, James N; four brothers, Charles E., L. Earl, Guy E. and George H; and two sisters, Ruth E. Sullivan and Lucille G. Nichols.³

GREENSBORO BEND - Mary Alice (Polk) Houghton, 87, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Born on Dec. 15, 1923, in Boca Grande, Fla., she was the daughter of William and Matilda (Kersey) Polk. She met Paul Houghton in 1947, and they were married on April 15, 1948. They had been married 62 years at the time of his passing on Aug. 15, 2010.

Mary and Paul moved from Boca Grande to Littleton, N.H., and then settled in Montpelier in 1952. She lived there until October 2010, when she moved to Greensboro Bend to live with her daughter, Jean. Over the years Mary worked outside the home from time to time, but she was primarily a mother and grandmother to her large family. Her son David was born in Boca Grande. Daughter Jean Ann and son Paul Jr. were born in central Vermont. She and her husband also lovingly raised their two nephews, Norman and Michael Scolaro.

Mary was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She and Paul enjoyed socializing and spent many hours playing cards and partying with friends. Mary was an easy-going woman with a pleasant disposition. She was never known to complain, even as her health diminished over the past few years.

Mary is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Millard, of Homestead, Fla., and Gloria Conte, of Hemet, Calif; one brother, Darrell Polk, and his wife, Margaret, of Boca Grande, Fla; and her five children: David Polk and his partner, Sandra Davis, of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Jean Ann and Fred DeMag, of Greensboro Bend, Paul Houghton Jr., of Barre, Norman and Diane Scolaro, of East Calais, and Michael and Diane Scolaro, of Montpelier. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. A great-great-grandson is due in September. In addition to her husband, Mary is predeceased by three sisters: Pansy, Betty and Billie Jean.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School St. in Montpelier. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Berlin Corners Cemetery.
