HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Ann T. Houghton, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at her residence on the River Road in Hoosick Falls, surrounded by her family. She resided there with her husband, Merton Wayne Houghton.

Ann was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Hoosick Falls, daughter of the late Leo and Loretta (Kelly) Mulvihill. Ann was educated at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. She was formerly employed at the Grand Union and Leo Albowicz Market as a cashier, both in Hoosick Falls. Ann then worked at the Trustco Bank also in Hoosick Falls until retiring several years ago. Ann was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. She bowled in the Tuesday Night Women’s League at the Bar-B-Que lanes in Hoosick Falls. Her main interest was her family.

Survivors other than her husband, Wayne, include a daughter, Mary Ann Hanselman and her husband Bill; two sons, Leo Wayne and Kim Houghton and John William and his wife Wanda Houghton, all of Hoosick Falls; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by a son, Joseph Clark Houghton, who died in 1961, and a brother, Leo Mulvihill.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 2 to 4 and evening from 6 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the funeral home.

Everett L. Houghton

Everett L. Houghton, of 425 South Lansing St., Mt. Pleasant died Monday, May 6, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 7, 1901 in Isabella County and had been in the roofing business for 27 years. For the Past 3 years he had been employed in the maintenance department at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary services will be held Wednesday, May 8 at 8 p.m. at the J.J. Rush Funeral Home,

Surviving are his wife, Mary O'Connor Houghton; one brother, Richard Houghton of Alma; 2 sisters Mrs. Richard Teeter of Clearwater, Florida and Edyth Sorenson of Gowen, Mich; 2 stepsons, David O'Connor of Montana and Stanley O'Connor of Mt. Pleasant.

Biography

Larry R. Houghton: Richard (Dick) Earl Houghton (my father) had lots of farming experience, too. About the time I was born (1936), he worked at the local elevator (Michigan Bean Company). In 1942, the manager of the Michigan Bean Company elevator in Alma, about 30 miles away), died. With so many men going into the military, it was difficult to find a replacement and Dad was somehow picked. As a result he had a deferment from military service, but often said he'd probably have been in better shape if he'd been in the Army. He started at about 190 pounds and was down to 145 pounds at the end of the war. By then, his crew was old men and women. In the 1960s he started his own feed business in the Alma area which continued until he retired in 1979. In 1947 he earned his private pilot's license. He enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.⁵

J.B. Houghton Sr.
Ranger - J.B. "Shorty" Houghton Sr., a retired auto mechanic died yesterday in an Irving nursing home. He was 90.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist Church of Ranger, where he was a member. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.

Mr. Houghton was born in Tyler in Smith County. He began working as a mechanic in 1918. He opened a garage in Ranger in the early 1930s and retired in 1971.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Houghton of Mineral Wells, J.B. Houghton Jr. of Irving and James A. Houghton of Houston; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Biography

Bill passed away November 6, 2011 and is now with his precious lord and Savior. He was born July 3rd 1921 in Ranger Texas to the parents of J.B. Houghton and Caroline Oswald Houghton. He met his wife, Catherine, also born and raised in Ranger Texas, as a child. They grew up together in Ranger and married in 1946, after Bill had served his country in WWII as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. In 1950 they moved to Breckenridge, Texas where both of their daughters were born, Jan and Deborah. In 1953 Bill moved his family to Mineral Wells, Texas to own and operate the Mineral Wells Daily Newspaper. He and Catherine raised their daughters here and resided in Mineral Wells for 45 years. Here Bill was an active member of the community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Holiday Hills Country Club, was a member of the Lion's Club and a member of the First Baptist Church. During their time in Mineral Wells, many summers were spent at their cabin at Possum Kingdom Lake where Bill enjoyed fishing and taking his daughters water skiing. Bill was an excellent golfer and spent many hours enjoying golfing with his friends. He was also a very good cook, in fact, he taught his wife, Catherine, to cook and they in turn passed this talent to both daughters.
In 1997 Bill and Catherine moved to Dallas to be close to daughters, Jan and Deborah and their families. It was a difficult decision to leave their home and friends of 45 years, but it proved to be a good one. They joined Prestonwood Baptist Church in 1998 and made many good friends there and were able to enjoy many good times with their daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Catherine; they were happily married for sixty five years, two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Jerry Smith, and Deborah and Vance Arnold. He had five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, J. B. Houghton and wife Mary of Irving, Texas.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 6:30~8:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Prestonwood Baptist Church Chapel, Plano, Texas. Bill will be laid to rest following the services at the church at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.

J.B. Houghton, Jr., age 89, of Irving, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Baylor Medical Center of Irving. Born September 18, 1923 in Ranger, Texas, he was an accountant for Henry C. Beck Construction Company for over 22 years. He married Mary H. Pitchford November 9, 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Irving. Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ernest, Bill, and Jim, survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Randy Houghton of Denton; a daughter, Pamela Ronck and husband Keith of Southlake; four grandchildren, Brian Davisson and wife Aneela of New York City, NY, Stephanie Syler of South Carolina, Matthew Ronck and wife Stephanie of San Antonio, and Jessica Ronck of Austin; two great grandchildren, Landry Syler and Parker Syler. Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery (Lane A); a memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving. There is no formal visitation prior to the service but viewing will be available at the funeral home 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday
and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, or friends may call at the family home.
