OBITUARY

George W. Houghton, 69, of East Hanover died yesterday in Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church of Hanover. Arrangements are by the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston.

Mr. Houghton was a security guard for the Wells Fargo Bank for 10 years, retiring in 1992. Previously he was a computer programmer for Litton Industries in Morris Plains for many years.

He was a life member of the American Philatelic Society and the Tri-State Railway Historical Society.

Mr. Houghton served as a first class seaman in the Navy during World War II. Born in Springfield, Mass., he lived in Rutherford before moving to East Hanover 37 years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a son, Paul; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Troll, and a grandchild.

A memorial service will be held today for Emily (Bissell) Houghton of Concord, former executive director of the Traveler's Aid Society, who died Sunday in Rivercrest-Deaconess Home in Concord. She was 95. Born in Springfield, Mrs. Houghton grew up in Wilmington, Vt. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Simmons College. She was the executive director of the Traveler's Aid Society in Boston for more than 30 years until her retirement many years ago.
A resident of Concord, she had previously lived in Reading and Dorchester. She leaves a sister, Helen Whidden of Greenfield.¹

Deceased Name: ONSET - Alfred Glenwood Houghton Sr.
73, a resident of Onset, died Friday at his home. He was the husband of Rochelle (Santos) Houghton since 1978. Born in New Bedford, Mr. Houghton lived in New Bedford and Wareham before moving to Onset 28 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Independent Heating in Onset for more than 40 years. Mr. Houghton was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2425 in Marion. He was an avid golfer. Surviving besides his wife are seven daughters, Linda Mattice of New York, Sharon Rowe of Buzzards Bay, Bonnie Donlan of New York, Trudy Gardipee of South Carolina, Lana Perry of Sandwich, and Kristy and Caitlin Houghton, both of Onset; two sons, Alfred Glenwood Houghton Jr. of South Plymouth and James S. Houghton of Onset; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.²
