J. Richard Obituary, WWII veteran, retired Lynn fire fighterLYNN - Ret. FF. J. Presley Richard, 81, of Lynn died Friday, December 19, 2008 in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Rita (Gamache)(Dionne) Richard with whom he shared 20 years of marriage.Presley was born in Lynn, son of the late Reuben and Anna (Despres) Richard. He was a lifelong resident of Lynn.A Fire Fighter for the City of Lynn, he was appointed on April 22, 1961 and began his career serving Engine 6. He then transferred in 1961 to Engine 8 Grade C. In 1969 he served with Engine 3 Division, transferred to Engine 9 Division 4 in 1980, and then to Engine 7 Division 3 in 1990. Presley retired May 31, 1992 with 31 years of service to the City of Lynn.He was a WW II Veteran serving with the United States Army Air Corps and held the rank of Corporal.He was a member of the Lynn Fire Department Relief Assoc., St. Jeans Men's Choir, and Franco-American War Veterans Post 12 where he served on many committees at the Post also on a State and National level. He was also named Frenchman of the Year at the Post.Besides his wife he leaves 4 sons, Arthur Richard and his wife Karen, Tom Richard and John Richard all of Lynn and Mike Richard of Vermont, 4 daughters, Debbie Richard of NH, Julie Richard of Lynn, Louise Richard of Lynn and Nancy Lynch of NH. He was the step-father of Susan Russell of Limington, Maine, Paul Dionne of New Braunfels, TX, Roger Dionne of Tulsa, OK, and Lorraine Steeves of Oviedo, FL. He also leaves his brother Ed Richard and his wife Lillian of Lynn, his sister Alice LeBlanc and her husband Leo of Middleton, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.Service Information: Funeral will be from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn, Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.
