He was born before 1 October 1786 at Cockerington, Lincolnshire, England.10,11,13,14,7,8,9 Michael White was christened on 1 October 1786 at Saint Leonard, South Cockerington, Lincolnshire, England.15,16 Michael married Mary Ann Brown on 14 May 1812 at Lincolnshire, England. THey both signed with their mark. Mary White and William Brown were witnesses.1,17,18,19,20,7,8,9,21
Michael White died on 13 March 1865, at or near Ludborough, at Lincolnshire, England.22,13,23,24,25
Michael White was buried on 16 March 1865 at St. Mary Parish, Ludborough, Lincolnshire, England.13,25
Michael and Ann White appeared on the 1841 British Census Ludborough, at Lincolnshire, England, enumerated 6 June 1841, described as an Ag (agricultural) Labourer. Their children Elizabeth, George, Joseph, Maria and Mary were listed as living with them.7
Michael and Mary A. White appeared on the 1851 British Census of England, at Ludborough, Lincolnshire, enumerated effective 30 Mar 1851, described as an agricultural labourer occupying 5 acres of land. Their children Michael and Betsy were listed as living with them. As was Elizabeth Stephenson, a servant. What is the connection to the Stephenson family? Richard White of Ludborough had a son Stephenson, and several generations used Stephenson as a middle name.8
Michael and Ann M. White appeared on the 1861 British Census of England, at Ludborough, Lincolnshire, enumerated effective 07 Apr 1861, described as an agricultural labourer. As was their servant, Dinah Pickard.26,9
The following information is from my personal research at the Autobiographical Sketches by George Herbert White, 1952:
"My great-grand-father, Michael White, died a long time before as the result of a fall from a stack or waggon (sic) while haymaking."
Note that this was confirmed by a certified copy of an Entry of Death from the British General Register Office which notes that the cause of death was "Accidentally falling from the top of a Loaded Waggon." An inquest was held Mar 14, 1865.
The burial entry in the Ludborough parish register includes a marginal note "Killed by fall 1865" followed by an additional 3 words that I cannot read.22,24,25

The following biographical information was shared at the White family narrative by George "Clare" White, March 1979:
THE WHITE FAMILY
     Ludborough, Lincolnshire, Old England
The original information was recorded by Thomas Boothby White (my grandfather) in March 1869. His handwriting was neat and scholarly, with all his tees crossed well to the right.
William, Eliza, Samuel and Thomas Boothby emigrated to Canada in 1844, settling in Gore Township, York County and moved in 1847 to Collingwood Township, Grey County - Concession 10 on the Beaver valley side of the Blue Mountain. Mary Ann, Ann Maria and Joseph followed later.
Miss Phyllis Sine arranged a White Family Reunion on September 30, 1972 in the Heathcote Community Hall. More than one hundred descendants attended.
Sons and daughter(s) of George Patchett White emigrated to New Zealand in 1880 and later. Three of them were Stephen Boothby, Rev. John Hobson (and Mary Lizzie Wells) (note -- bracketed information is struck through on Clare White's original). We met ten of their granddaughters and grandsons when we were in New Zealand in 1970. Three have visited in Canada and a fourth, Miss Judith White, will be here for a short time this spring and fall. They are somewhat of our age but are of our children's generation.
My best source of information about my great grandparents is a letter dated July 21, 1924 from Mary Lizzie Wells of "Mount Hope", Mapua, Nelson, New Zealand to a Canadian cousin. We visited with two of her sons, Bernard and Malcolm in 1970 and correspond on a once a year basis. Parts of her letter are quoted below; her great grandmother "used to speak of her bad boys who broke her heart by going over the sea to Canada:--- read to her the letters that came from them from time to time. But later she acknowledged that it was God's providence that they had gone, when, as they prospered, they were able to send her enough to keep her in comfort in her old age, when otherwise she would have had to go to the work-house. Her husband, my great grandfather, was a farm labourer, earning only 10 shillings per week on which they managed to bring up eighteen children (they had twenty-five altogether, but seven died at birth). Each of the eighteen children had a little china mug with its name printed on. ---- I understand that my great grandmother, the wonderful mother of that large family, had me in her arms before she passed away. They say that she and her husband were very fine types of Christian people of early Methodist days, and I am sure you will agree with me that we have much to be thankful for in that we come of such splendid, upright, God-fearing stock. It is worth more to us and to our children after us than an inheritance of untold wealth."
Phyllis Sine obtained our grandfather's mug from a descendant of his brother Michael in New Zealand. She gave it to me for my older brother's (Thomas Boothby Leslie) son (Thomas Boothby Michael) and grandson (Thomas Boothby). There will be five Thomas Boothbys named on the mug. I have not been able to learn the origin of "Boothby".
In 1973, Irene and I went to Ludborough with Enid (great grand daughter of George Patchett White) and Rae Hawkins of New Zealand. The "White" thatch semi-detached cottage is very durable. The Church is, like many churches and cathedrals, in great need of repair. There were no "White" grave-stones in the Church graveyard. We had tea and cookies with two charming ladies whose grandparents had known our great grand-parents. They said that many families did not have grave-stones because of the cost.
Phyllis Sine's parents corresponded with Enid's parents for many years as did Enid and Phyllis. Phyllis planned their meetings with Canadian "White" families across Canada in 1964. We were on her agenda and have reaped fifteen years of very wonderful friendships and experiences.27

The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
In her 1924 letter, Mary Lizzie Wells nee White wrote "my great-grandfather, and your grandfather, was a farm-labourer earning only 10/- per week, on which they managed to bring up eighteen children (they had twenty-five altogether but seven died at birth). Each of the eighteen children had a little china mug with its name printed on, and as a child I remember how interested I used to be in reading the names, as the mugs stood in a row in the mantelpiece of the thatched cottage where they were all born"
I have often wondered about the phrasing of "(they had twenty-five altogether but seven died at birth)". At face value, this is possible, even if it seems impossible in our day and age.
However, the family has only passed on the names of 18 children, of whom 6 and possibly 7 died as very young children. They are: Helen (1814-1815), Martha (1819-1819), possibly Susan (1820 - ), Mary Ann (1826-1826), Charles (1828-1828), Jane (1833 - 1833) and Charlotte (1838 - 1838). If we include Susan, we have a record of 7 children that died early.
     Eighteen (18) plus seven (7) equals - you guessed it - twenty-five (25).
So, did Michael and Mary Ann have 25 children of whom 7 died, leaving 7 more unidentified children that lived longer than their infancy? Or, did they have 18 children in total, in which case we have a family record of all of their names?
Personally, I lean to the later possibility.
Wouldn't it be amazing to find even one of the nearly 200 year old mugs mentioned above?28
