He was born on 24 March 1828 in Lincolnshire, England, presuming that his day and month of birth in the 1901 census is correct, and that the year of his christening is correct, this may be his correct birth date. This appears to be confirmed by the age count on his gravemarker.12,13,9 Alternatively, he was born on 24 March 1829 in Lincolnshire according to the 1901 census, possibly from Grimoldby based upon other sources.14,6,10 Alternatively, he was born circa 1826 in England age 25 at his next birthday in the 1851 census15 or circa 1831 in England according to the 1861 census.8 William married Ann Maria White on 1 February 1849 in Ludborough parish, Lincolnshire, England.4,16,17,18,7,19,13,8,9,15,10 William married Frances Delaney Smith on 8 March 1900 in Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, Canada, according to Ontario Marriage Registration 007135.20,21 William Vamplew and Frances Delaney Smith were divorced before 31 March 1901. in the 1901 census, William is enumerated as "D" for divorsed, but Fannie is enumerated as "M" for married. They were enumerated as heads of separate households.

One is tempted to speculate why this was such a short marriage.6 William married Jemima Gibson on 2 November 1903 in Grey County, Ontario, Canada.22 The informant on his death registration was his son, William Vamplew.23
He died on 11 November 1904 in Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, at age 76.24,4,23,13 William Vamplew was buried in Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery, Thornbury, Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, Canada.25,4,23,26,27
He was Baptised/Christened on 19 June 1828 in Lincolnshire; Skidbrooke Cum Saltfleet Haven, Lincoln, England.12 He immigrated circa 1845 to Canada from England according to the 1901 census.28 He and Ann Maria White emigrated from England. They followed her three brothers and sister sometime shortly after their marriage. They first went to the Toronto Gore.29 He and Ann Maria White lived at Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, in 1851 they were living with Thomas Boothby White, who was still a bachelor.30
The 1861 Census of Lincolnshire, Grimoldby, RG9-2385, Folio 34, page 10 & 11 CD Pages 66 & 67, has several Vamplew families. Are they related to William?31
In "An Illustrated History of Collingwood Township", on page 150 it mentions that he was already in the Williamstown area by 1871.32 William Vamplew of Collingwood Twp., was the informant on the birth registration of his son, George Vamplew.28,33,34,6,35,36,9
William Vamplew was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of William Vamplew and Sarah Jane Armstrong on 25 February 1890.37

Census Data

William Vanflew and Ann M Vanflew appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, enumerated 11 January 1852, enumerated as a labourer and Church of England.15

William Vamplew and Maria Vamplew appeared on the 1861 Canada West Census of Grey County, Ontario, enumerated 14 January 1861, enumerated as a farmer and "W Meth" which probably means Wesleyan Methodist. Their children Mary A, Betsy and Susan were listed as living with them. They lived in a log house according to this census.8
William Vamplew and Anne M appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. William was enumerated as Wesleyan Methodist and a farmer. Their children Mary A, Betsy W, Ellen, William, Eliza and Anne M were listed as living with them.10
William Vamplew and Ann M appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. William was enumerated as the head of the family, Church of England and a farmer. Their children Ellen, William, Eliza, Ann M, George and Sarah J were listed as living with them.9
William appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, in the household of George Vamplew and Mary Vamplew, listed as "Farmer r" so probably means farmer retired.6
