He was born circa 1 March 1813 at Lincolnshire, England.12,13,14,15,9 William married Amelia Millie Brown on 13 May 1844 at Ludborough parish, Lincolnshire, England.19,20,21,9,11
William White died on 9 July 1880 at Ontario, Canada. This is my preferred date of death, based upon his gravemarker. I have not yet located his Ontario Death Registration (May 2023.)17,16,22 Alternatively, he died on 11 September 188023,6 or on 9 November 1880. Both are given by family sources, likely indicating confusion about date formats (mmddyyy vs ddmmyyyy).15
William White was buried at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery, Thornbury, Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, Canada.17,24
His name was also recorded as William S. White.25 He was Baptised/Christened on 28 February 1813 at Ludborough, Lincolnshire, England.26,8
William White appeared on the 1841 British Census Ludborough, at Lincolnshire, England, enumerated 1841, described as a man servant for George Rose, 50, a farmer in the county.. The 1841 Census of Lincoln, Wapentake, Ludborough shows a William White, 25, born in the county. Since census takers tended to round the ages of males to the nearest 5 years, the age is within the right range.
Came from England to settle in Beaver Valley, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. They sailed from Hull, England on March 14, 1844 and spent four years in the Gore of Toronto before settling in Collingwood Township, Ontario.
William and Amelia White appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census (delayed) of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Canada West, enumerated 11 January 1852. William was described as a farmer and Wesleyan Methodist. Their children, Mary Ann, Michael and Frances, were listed as living with them.9
William and Amelia White appeared on the 1861 United Province of Canada Census of Grey County, Canada West, enumerated 14 January 1861. William was described as aFarmer and a W(eslayan?) Methodist. Their children, Mary A., Michael, Frances, William and George, were listed as living with them. The family lived in a one story log house.11
William and Amelia White appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. William was described as a farmer and W Methodist. Their children, Michael, William and George, were listed as living with them.10
William White was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of Michael White and Fanny Gray on 28 February 1872.27
William White was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of William White and Jane Atkins on 12 January 1881.28
In the obituary of George White who died 24 January 1937, William White was listed as predeceased.29
The following information is from my personal research, 1998:
WHITE, William
     1813-1880
The eldest of Michael and Mary Ann (Patchett) White's children, William emigrated to the Gore of Toronto in 1844. In about 1847 he moved to Collingwood Township with his brothers and sister. He settled on the south half of Lot 18, Concession 10.
Between the years 1855 and 1870 he served as Reeve of the municipal council eleven times. From 1873 to 1880 he served as Deputy Reeve. He died while holding that office.
In 1860 the township acquired a set of books to be distributed between five centres. He was appointed to "attend to the dividing and to distribute them."
     1851-52 Councillor
1853 Councillor
1855 Reeve
1856 Reeve
1857 Councillor
1859-63 Reeve
1864-65 Councillor

1868 Reeve
1870 Reeve

On page 59 of An Illustrated History of Collingwood Townshipthere is an image of council minutes signed by William White, Reeve
In 1878, a new brick church was built to replace the original log structure located just north of it. The original was on land from Samuel White. This was also a Wesleyan Methodist Church and became known as White's Church. It closed in 1969. In 1884, it became the Methodist Church of Canada. In 1925, it joined the United Church of Canada.30
