Emma J. Bullock was born on 26 December 1841 in New York. Her birthdate is from her brother Myron E. Bullock's gravestone, which refers to her as his sister. There is no death date on the gravestone which suggests that she may not be buried there. The use of her maiden name on the gravestone also suggests that perhaps they did not expect her to marry.^1,2

Emma J. Bullock appeared on the census of 1850 in the household of Ebenezer Bullock, Jr., and Huldah Bullock in Delafield, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, which lists Eben Bullock, a farmer age 48 and born in Massachusetts, his wife Huldah, age 47 born in Vermont, and their children, Myron, age 26 and a farmer, Phebe, age 21, Amanda, age 18, Mariette, age 14, Imogene [sic, apparently Emma J.], age 8, and John, age 7. Also living with them was a Newman Bullock, a laborer age 17 born in New York, who was apparently their nephew Newman Camel Bullock (Levi Bullock's son who was born in 1834) from Rock County, Wisconsin.³ Emma J. Bullock appeared on the census of 1860 in the household of Ebenezer Bullock, Jr., and Huldah Bullock in Melrose, Jackson County, Wisconsin, which lists Ebenezer Bullock, 88, born in Massachusetts; his wife Huldah, 86, born in Vermont; their children (all born in New York) Myron, 36, Amanda, 24, Emma, 18, John 16; and Henry Hilton, 28, apparently a farm laborer who daughter Amanda was to marry in 1862.⁴

Emma J. Bullock and Myron E. Bullock appeared on the census of 1880 in Ettrick, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin.⁵

Emma J. Bullock and Myron E. Bullock appeared on the census of 1900 in Irving, Jackson County, Wisconsin, which lists Emma Bullock, 58, and her brother Myron E., 76, both born in New York. They are listed next to their younger brother John Bullock and his family in the census.⁶ She appeared on the census of 1 June 1905 in the household of Myron "Eben" Bullock and Hattie E.V. Bullock in Irving, Jackson County, Wisconsin, which lists Eben Bullock, 21, born in Wisconsin, his wife Hattie V., 22, born in Wisconsin, their daughters (both born in Wisconsin) Goldie M, 2, and Nina R., 4 months; Eben's uncle Myron Bullock, 82, born in New York, and aunt Emma J. Bullock, 65, born in New York. They are listed in the census next to Eben's father John Bullock and his family.⁷ She apparently never married.

Mrs. Josephine FAIRCHILD, 82, of Kewanna, died Sunday night of old age at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Newton FAIRCHILD. Mrs. Fairchild's son was the late Newton FAIRCHILD, who was killed last Thursday when his automobile was hit by an Erie passenger train near Monterey. His funeral occurred Sunday afternoon and Mrs. Fairchild died Sunday night about eleven o'clock. Mrs. Fairchild moved to this county about seventy years ago with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin FOUDRAY, from Flemingsburg, Kentucky, in which place she was born January 11, 1837. They came to and settled near Talma. Her father was postmaster at that place for better than thirty years. When she was about twenty years old she was united in marriage with Fairchild. To this union seven children were born, Nathan [FAIRCHILD], Francis [FAIRCHILD], Mary [FAIRCHILD], Ellen [FAIRCHILD], Perry [FAIRCHILD], Newton [FAIRCHILD] and Sam [FAIRCHILD]. Only one child survives her, Samuel, of Duluth, Minn. Mrs. Fairchild was a member of the Methodist church since she was a very young girl. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge at Kewanna. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of the late Newton Fairchild at Kewanna with burial in the cemetery in that town.
