His father Jacob Sly, Sr (or I) was born on board a vessel during its passage from Holland to Virginia of Dutch and Scotch parentage. They settled near Lexington, Virginia. In 1791, Jacob Sly, Jr. floated down the Ohio river to Fort Washington (now Cincinnati, OH), where he joined General Anthony Wayne's Army. He was an officer of transportation for the Army of General Arthur St. Claire at Fort Mercer, Fort Wayne and at Fort Defiance. After the war Jacob Sly, Sr. with his family, left their home in Virginia and went to Fort Washington, now Cincinnati. Here the Sly's built a flour mill, perhaps the first mill erected on Mill Creek. Jacob Sly, Jr., married Sarah Prickett, daughter of John Prickett and Sarah Robinson in Hamilton County, April 1794. They were the parents of eight children: George, Joseph, David, Mary, Elizabeth, Cassandra, Rebecca and Clara. Jacob was a native of Virginia. Jacob, with a party of young Virginians, emigrated to Fort Washington, Ohio, in 1791. He subsequently joined General Wayne's army and was with it in the campaign against the Indians on the Maumee. Jacob married Sarah Prickett, daughter of Mr. Prickett who with his family had emigrated from Virginia and settled on a stream in Clermont County, Ohio, called Stone Lick.
