Survivors include her husband, Robin Houghton of Cumming; her mother, Marguarite Armstrong; two sisters, Barbara Evans and Allison Largeman; a daughter, Heidi Avila; a son, Jeremy Orr; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service was held June 12 at First Christian Church. The Rev. Gary Armes and the Rev. Larry Deckard officiated.

Burial was June 13 at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumming First Christian Church, 1270 Suwanee Drive, Cumming, Ga., 30040.

The Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming was in charge of arrangements.³

Deceased Name: JOHN HOUGHTON JR., 67 WAS EVERETT POLICE LIEUTENANT
John J. Houghton Jr., a 42-year veteran of the Everett Police Department, died Saturday in his Everett home, of pulmonary congestion. He was 67. Mr. Houghton was born in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School.

During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Caroline Islands and Guam.

After the war, Mr. Houghton worked for General Electric in Everett and Lynn before joining the Everett police force in 1950. Eight years later he was promoted to sergeant and in 1965 became a lieutenant.

As lieutenant Mr. Houghton served in many capacities, including day-shift commander, officer in charge of central records and, several times, acting police chief. He also served as chief training officer and head of the Everett Tactical Police Force.

He retired in 1991.

He was a member of the Pope John Fathers Club and former treasurer of the Police Betterment Association.

Mr. Houghton leaves his wife, Claire K. (Costin); two daughters, Stacey of Boston and Kara of Everett; a son, Michael E. of Derry, N.H; a brother, Edward of Chelsea; a sister, Virginia Dillman of Indiana; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Our Lady of Grace Church in Chelsea. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

Her husband, Rodney L. Houghton, died before her. She leaves two sons, Lawrence Houghton of Hopkinton and Neil Houghton of Erie, Pa; a daughter, Elaine Boule of Marlboro; two sisters, Gwendolyn Sickles of Southboro and Janet Bishop of Lady Lakes, Fla; four grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. She was born in Watertown, daughter of Milton and Glenn (Ellison) Doore, and lived in Southboro before moving to Marlboro.

She was a member of First Community Church of Southville and the Women's Fellowship.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 22, in Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Southboro. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the funeral home.¹
