Deceased Name: SISTER JEAN M. HOUGHTON
OF SISTERS OF MERCY, 74 Sister Jean Marie Houghton, 74, a member of the Sisters of Mercy for more than 50 years, including 28 as as a teacher, died of heart failure yesterday at the religious order's retirement home at McAuley Convent in Merion.

Sister Jean taught science and chemistry at elementary schools in Narberth, Gwynedd Valley and the city, and high schools in Wyncote and Virginia.

After teaching, she began a new career in 1973 as a pastoral minister for St. Peter's parish in Richmond, Va. Her duties included visiting the sick and taking them Holy Communion.

In 1990, she left St. Peter's to work with handicapped children in Ridgley, Md., before coming to McAuley Convent in 1996.

Surviving are two step-sisters.

A viewing will be held at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Sisters of Mercy Convent chapel, 515 Montgomery Ave., followed by a Funeral Mass at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at the convent cemetery.

DIGHTON — Waldo C. Houghton, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.

He was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Alamota, to Ora Ray and Hilda Haag Houghton. He graduated from Dighton High School.

He married Lona Mae White. They later divorced.

Mr. Houghton was a farmer and rancher in Lane County. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include a daughter, Janel Cone of Los Banos, Calif; a granddaughter; and a sister, JoAnn Oliver of Scott City.

Military graveside service was to begin at 11 this morning at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Lorraine Ella (Higgins) Houghton, 88, St. Joseph, passed away Friday August 7,2015, at Mosaic Life Care. She was born December 19,1926, to George and Florence Higgins in Faith, S.D.
Lorraine enjoyed playing the organ, hand quilting, being outdoors and tending to her flower gardens. She was a member of the Kildare Ladies Club and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a devout catholic and attended Mary Immaculate Catholic Church while living in Gallatin. After retirement, she moved to Florida and lived her religion as a hospital volunteer and participating in multiple church activities. Lorraine was a housewife, having raised six children and later worked and retired from Stride Rite

Malinda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Houghton on September 1, 2001; and a sister, Elizabeth Hamilton. She is survived by her children, Mitchell (Maggie) Houghton, Debra Griffioen, Anita Brown and Candice Jones; several grand and great grandchildren; her sisters, Mandy Hensley, Ethel Shepperd, Joyce Rugg, Barbara Giles, Ida Mae Mc Kenzie and Sandy Schuler; her brothers, Andrew Townsend and Charles Townsend; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 Monday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Pastor John Vick, officiating. She was united in marriage to Mitchell Houghton on July 15, 1972, who survives. Maggie had been a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Maggie is survived by her husband, Mitchell S. Houghton, Sr. of Comstock; her son, Mitchell S. Houghton, Jr; siblings, Julie (Marvin) Thompson, Marsha Wyman, Bobby Conley, Martin (Jo) Price, Paul (Roberta) Price and Amanda (Jim) Doolittle; and several nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A funeral Mass will take place Thursday, 11:00 o'clock at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. Burial will immediately follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1:00 o'clock.
