We currently live in Irvine, California after moving from San Francisco. We lived in the Sunset District
on Ortega near 32nd Street. I still have pretty vivid memories of riding
the Muni and into work. However, not necessarily fond memories. We lived
in San Francisco from August, 1994 through March, 2000 and we still miss the
great climate. We do end up visiting about once a year. In fact, our
children attended Commodore Sloat Elementary School, my mother was born at
the Children's Hospital, her mother was born in a house on Holloway Street
and her husband, my grandfather, attended Galileo High School. My employer,
State Compensation Insurance Fund's Home Office is located at Market and
9th, where I used to work in San Francisco. Also, we have a Kaiser
connection. My wife and children where born at Kaiser hospitals and we
spent a great deal of time at the St. Joseph hospital where my wife had a
number of surgeries while we were in San Francisco. Another bit of trivia,
my cousin Janice is married to Paul Peachey, a Kaiser physician in Oregon.
The world just keeps getting smaller.

Vern Houghton Dies at Nowata
Services are pending for Vern Houghton, 60. who formerly lived in this area, who died Sunday of a heart attack at his home 4 miles west of Nowata. Houghton had worked for the Carter Oil Company 18 years. His wife, Mrs. Beulah Houghton, died in 1945. The Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Kaw City. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Marlene, of the home; one sister. Mrs. Elsie Terry, Coffeyville. Kan., and two brothers, Ernie. Napa, Calif., and Cliff, Palm City, Calif.
